Bottle. Hazy brown color. Aroma has huge vanilla, light spice. Taste is herbal vanilla and butterscotch. Oily mouthfeel. Nice. Tmoney99 (15130) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 18, 2012
Draft sample. Poured clear reddish brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy chocolate malt, dark fruit and rum alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet rum finish of moderate to long duration. This is a better version standout Dogbrick (14326) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a dark brown color with some ruby around the edges, and a medium beige head that dissipates steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted nuts, caramel malt and coconut. Full-bodied with flavors of sweet malt, rum and chocolate-covered nuts. The finish is mildly boozy with a rum and chocolate aftertaste. Enjoyable beer all around. alexsdad06 (11238) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - AUG 13, 2013
Draft sample during 7th Anny. Pours a murky brown color with a small creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have rum soaked caramel, vanilla, wood, light toasted nuts, touch of roast, hints of earth with a touch of bitterness to the finish. Great sipper, finishes on the dry side. Probably less rum influence than the bourbon influence in the other. phaleslu (10899) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 29, 2013
22 oz. bottle, 2012 vintage, #107/216. Pours a hazy plum brown with a small beige ring for a head. Took shitty notes on this one. Rum barrel is more subdued than expected, but still offers plenty of warmth, sweetness, and dark fruit. Caramel, cola, toasted brown sugar, raisins, plums. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a rich, sweet mouthfeel that has some subtle warmth. Nice rum barrel treatment on this barley wine.

22oz bottle, shared. 2012 vintage, bottle 211/216. Hazy brown color. Thin creamy khaki head. Leaves lots of dots of lace. Really nice rum barrel, toasty caramel malt, brown sugar aroma in the nose. Nice creamy texture, bigger body, good burnt brown sugar. Some chocolate. Nice bitter sweet taste, light bite. Nice light boozy warmth in the finish, works well with the rum barrel aromas... Just a light bite. Very tasty barleywine to sip and savor. solidfunk (9734) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - AUG 3, 2015
Some citrus, light smoke and light caramel. Light tangy finish. Brown pour. Pretty good stuff. Definitely better than the regular, though this tastes so different from the other it makes me think something happened in the barrel. In any case it was a good thing. Bottle shared at tasting. b3shine (9271) - Indiana, USA - MAR 19, 2013
Bomber to snifter (thanks DrSilverworm). Looks good; a dark, fairly opaque brown with beige lacing. Smells good too; sweet and boozy with a nice rum barrel presence and notes of vanilla. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Good beer! nimbleprop (8949) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - AUG 4, 2015
22oz bottle pours a murky brown with some hazy, beige head. Nose is chewy, booze, some candy sugar, brandy, caramel Flavor is sweet, loads of apples and brandy, caramel, bread. Full bodied, boozy finish. Very heavy. JaBier (8396) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - DEC 17, 2012
Small pour at the Jackie O’s 7th Anniversary Extravaganza. Opaque brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel candy, spice and rum. Malty flavor with rum, chocolate and caramel before a roasty finish. Very nice.
