On tap at the brewpub, served in a snifter - 8.5% ABV. Nice, thin creamy off-white head. Leaves good lace. Totally hazy amber color, with bubbles on the side of the glass. This is much different than the other "imperial amber" I’ve had, Nugget Nectar (which most of us consider an IPA). This is a much more honest take on the style -- it really just seems like a higher ABV amber. Which isn’t a great thing, because I typically find amber ales to be kind of mild and uninteresting to begin with. This is unique, though. The smoky malts in the firefly are much more evident here, along with a ripe fruit aroma, and alcohol. Bitter taste, some sweet. Lighter crisp carbonation, more dry texture. Long, bitter toasty malt aftertaste. Interesting, but I’m not really a fan. Strong alcohol taste detracts from the enjoyability. Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 2, 2011
The aroma is light vanilla and barrel notes with light bitterness. It pours dark amber honey with a decent light tan head. You get bitter notes, amber malts, and light barrel notes on a medium body. JStax (7123) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - APR 3, 2011
On tap into a sampler glass. Aroma is very much like a bready caramel. Taste is caramel, hops, and a somewhat yeasty mid-drink taste. Finish is sweet caramel and nuts. Heavy bodied beer and pretty tasty. JaBier (8156) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - MAR 1, 2011
Sample at Jackie O’s on 2/5/11. Clear amber pour with a medium beige head. Aroma is caramel malt, a bit of bread and some spicy hops. Caramel malt flavor with a bit of booze and sweet bread with a mild finish. Beerman6686 (6607) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 24, 2011
This poured an amber color with a beige head. Aroma was caramel, bittering hops and light citrus, also some booze. Flavor was just ask described, an imperial amber, too lgiht of flavors to handle the abundant alcohol, but mainly consisted of sweet malt and caramel and lgiht grassy/citrus hops.

Sample at the Jackie O’s Bottle Sale/ Stout and Big Beer Fest on 02/05/2011. Pours a brownish-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Caramel malt and fruit in the nose. Medium body with flavors of dark fruits, malt, caramel and hops. The finish is fruity with an earthy and piney hops aftertaste. Above average overall.
