On draft at Alexandria’s in Findlay. Pours a nice stout brown color with an off-white head. Nose is roast, pine, a bit of earth, and hits of herbal hops. Flavor is similar with roast, earth, black coffee, and pine sap. Light to medium in body and a nice black IPA overall. Dogbrick (14009) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 27, 2015
Sample at Yabo’s Tacos. The beer is a brownish-black color with a medium creamy tan head that recedes steadily to a dense film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops and roasted malt. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, roast malt and dark chocolate. The finish is piney hops up front with a chocolate malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall. Draft. Brad does not disappoint. I always wonder if I have a predisposition to Jackie-O’s but this beer is damn good. JStax (7228) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - JUN 7, 2015
Draft pour into a snifter. The beer is a dark brown, nearing black. The aroma has ashy caramel, roast, earthy bitterness. The taste is mildly bitter and ashy. Bigger body and medium carbonation.

On tap at the brewpub on 5/23/15. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, roast, citrus and pine. Orange and grapefruit flavor up front, giving way to pine and light onion before a roasty finish. Tmoney99 (15040) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 29, 2015
Draft. Poured black color with an average frothy tan head that lasted and produced very good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and hop aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a very good beer. phaleslu (10750) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 29, 2015
Draft at Dutch’s, served in a snifter. Pours an opaque brown with a finger of tan head that laces the glass and settles into a film with scattered large bubbles. Dark chocolate up front, with earth, tobacco, wet grass, and toast. There’s some citrus peel and floral bitterness, mostly on the nose. It’s fairly subdued initially and shows more complexity as it warms. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, bitter mouthfeel. Good black IPA; I had to upgrade my score twice as I drank it. alexsdad06 (10949) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - MAY 28, 2015
Draft to half snifter at Dutch’s. Pours a dark cola brown to almost black color with an average beige head. The aroma and flavor scream more IPA than porter which is what I like to see in these. Some light roasted malts and dark chocolate, but this is about the earthy and herbal hops, a splash of darker citrus, a hint of smoke, dry, moderate bitterness to the finish, solid black IPA. On tap at Dutch’s. Black color, with a nice thin tan head, leaving great webs of lace. Medium to bigger body. Nice mild chewiness. More dry overall. Nice earthy herbal hop. Mild roast malt, kind of toasty, bit of dark chocolate. Light touch of ashy smoke. Kind of dank, sort of weed-like. Touch of spicy mild peppery citrusy hop, but earthy herbal flavors dominate. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Satisfyingly dry for an 8.5% black ale. Kind of crisp and refreshing, never feels too heavy. Drinks easier than you’d think for the ABV. Pretty well-done black IPA. Grows on me more and more as I go.
