3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
tap at the brewery. doughed smoked maple. touch of smoked jerky. don’t really recognize bacon exactly. just a hint of old wet wood and vanilla. touch too sweet. tad flabby. looking like my least favorite of the 4 barrel varieties.
Growler served in Southern Tier tulip. Thanks to Gonzoillini for the share.
A: Pours a semi dark brown color with lots of dark ruby highlights. A little tan head forms on the pour and recedes to a thin ring. Some splotches of lace.
S:Very subtle smoke, some wood, with some light malts. Subtle sweetness on the back end. Not getting much of the barrel.
T: More smokey than the nose. some pale malts with a little roast. Slightly sweet with some sweet barrel notes.
M: Really drinkable. Light bodied with a medium carbonation.
O: The barrel was extremely light in this situation, but it provided enough sweetness to cut some of the smoke. An interesting beer that I’d like to try again.

Big thanks to Alex for the growler. Pours a clear deep amber brown with a grayish brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a light smoke note with a bit of dark grains and a touch of maple. Flavor has a good amount of smoke with a bit of sweet maple and dark grains. This was alright. Im not sure this tastes anything like bacon. Just kind of an odd meaty smoked beer. Its a bit watery as well. My least favorite. Ernesto987 (6050) - Arizona, USA - FEB 2, 2013
On tap from the source, lightly smokier smoke and dagger, interesting and wish I got some more of the other flavors
