Poured from bottle hazy auburn with a quick receding head. Aromas of campfire smoke caramel and maple. Taste is smoky with hints of maple sugar and caramel.

With only 5 months of age on it, I was kind of hoping it would be less tired than it was. Pour shows an auburn, bubbly liquid with a quickly receding head that simply can’t be coaxed to stay around. Clarity is high leaving only light sediment in the bottom (thought there’d be more of that too).
Black pepper, very light greasy smoke and touches of vanilla in the nose are rather subdued. Very persistent phenolic character must be from the maple syrup fermentation and interplay with the smoked malt phenols? Either way, it’s meaty and peppery in not such a pleasant way....
Flavor comes off a touch better on account of the dry malt texture, though the carbonation is tired and smokiness and phenol emerge quite strongly on the end. Hard to describe what went wrong, as obviously I love smokiness more than the next guy, but this is just very stale, peppery and somewhat lifeless. For being unfiltered I wouldnt expect this, but perhaps this just wasn’t a malty beer to begin with. Odd.
Bottle at Craig’s. Pours copper amber, nose is smoky, grassy, taste is light smoky maple, not bad.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy smoke, light maple, and a touch of brown sugar. It pours a transparent amber with a small off-white head that quickly fades to a very fine ring. The flavor starts with brown sugar, light maple, and a touch of fruit. The finish has moderate smoke with a touch of caramel. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat sticky mouthfeel.
Bottle: Thanks, Alex. Semi-cloudy copper & amber body with the fastest fading gray-tinted head on top. Thinnest collar leftover. Aroma of smoked wood, old campfire dust, charred caramel, faint maple, & some light earthiness underneath. Flavor is more smoky... Smoked malt, slightly sweet liquid smoke, & a mild campfire essence. Hints of prune, caramel, & charcoal. Maple is very hard to pick up in the flavor... Not much maple at all, really. Hint of overly toasted malt & slightly burnt, smoked wood in the finish.
