On draft at the brewery, very light pepper flavors, lighter than peppercorns. Lushawn likes this more than me. I like almond joy
Draught at the brewery, 4/23/16.GenDV138 (7201) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2016
Dark ebony with lighter dark mahogany edges and a charred grey head that is well-retained. Clarity is moderate.
Light ash, light tobacco and bits and pieces of honey-caramel soaked bread. Vanilla lingering with just a hint of spicy pepper. Almost a light cola/hazelnut character on the finish. Loads of chalk ad fresh yeast really steal the show here.
I just love the new Smoke and Dagger. Absolutely free from the heavy breadiness and roasted barley bitterness of the original version. In its place a lightly ashy, strongly chalky and caramel-milk-chocolate-sweet maltiness. Add to this light bakers chocolate-like dryness and a softly warming pepper spiciness and it’s definitely gained from the peppers, I think. Barrel-aged? If it is, it’s only just mellowed and congealed the flavors perfectly as there’s no harsh tannin or overly oaky/woody flavors here. Lovely stuff and shockingly drinkable given what you’d expect for a barrel aged pepper smoked beer.
4 oz pour on draft at Jack’s Abby. Consumed on 4/21/2016. 5.8% ABV. Clear dark brown with light tan head. Aromas of flowery notes, peppery spices. Tastes of roasty notes, floral notes, light cocoa, black peppery notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Berard (639) - Salem, New Hampshire, USA - APR 26, 2016
Draft. Pours black with a creme colored head that coats the beer. Mild aroma of pepper with that distinct black lager smell. Super tasty black lager with a hint of heat from the peppercorns.

Tap at the source. It pours clear deep brown with a decent beige head. The nose is earthy, sweet treacle, smoked malt, honey-glazed ham and smooth roast. The taste is bitter-sweet, peppery upfront, earthy roast, wood, spice, fruit cake and smoked meats with a dry, peppery finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Novel. 500ml bottle (June 2014) pours dark rustic brown-black with light edges and a small thin head. Nose is light smoky malt, spice, toothpaste, mint, medical ointment. Taste is medium bodied, some light roasty notes, nuts, some light spice and smoke. Not picking up much barrel character. Finish is light roasty dark nutty malt, occasional semi-sweet watery cocoa and minty spice, maybe a tiny bit of the "numb" tingling on the palate that the peppers are known for but could have also just been in my head.

Aroma- hibiscus, faint hops, bready malts. Flavor- slight peppery taste that leaves a tingle in the back of the throat and tongue. Interesting brew, but nothing more than a novelty. jtclockwork (16443) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 30, 2014

bottle. bunch of garbage smoke, soak, and bandaid. some light chocolate but mostly just a phenolic mess. bleh mkgrenwel (619) - North Shore, Massachusetts, USA - APR 12, 2014
Very dark brown pour, tan head. Aroma is chocolate and smoke. Flavor is nice and smoky with an oily sweet finish. Fruity peppery spice in the back. A little thin in the mouthfeel to justify the rest of the elements going on.
