Pour out of 500 mL bottle, big thanks to Aaron for the pour at ROYGBIV day. Clear reddish pour with white head, aroma brought notes of dark caramel, toffee, hints of rye, slight grass, orange note, hints of slight earth. Taste is a mix of earth, grass, grain into some caramel, toffee, slight spice in there, touch of orange peel, lemon, finishing bitter. Seems a bit old, but tastes decent. nimbleprop (8750) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - OCT 5, 2012
50cl bottle pours a slightly hazy, deep gold color with some frothy, white head. Nose gave me flashbacks of grabbing my dad a beer as a kid. Pretty sure he never drank anything this good. Big yeasty, malty aroma invites you right in, honey, sugary malt, orange, rye bread, some caraway seed, some light pine, a little lemon. The nose doesn’t really reveal totally the delicious hoppiness of the flavor. The flavor is perfectly balanced, sweet oranges, candied lemon peel, light grapefruit, sugary malt, honey, bread dough, spicy rye. Medium bodied, dry, citrus, spicy finish. With this was local for me because I would buy it by the case. Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 10, 2013
In short: A tasty rye-based aromatic hoppy lager like no other. Excellentthornecb (6058) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 6, 2012
How: Bottle 500ml. Consumed fresh two weeks after purchase from the brewery, bottle given to me by lushawn, thanks a lot Shawn
The look: Clear shining pale golden body topped by a enormous dense white head leaving lots of lacings on the glass. A beautiful beer.
In long: Very aromatic hoppy nose full of flowers, lemon pie, citrus fruits, more… A very bright aroma with a freshness quality that is hard to put into words. Needless to say it is inviting. Taste lets the rye shines but it does not overwhelming the beer, typical spiciness that usually accompanies rye-based beers, a slice of lemon pie with a lot of meringue, a little piece of fluffy cheese cake, a truckload of hops (fresh flowers, wet green grass, citrus fruits) providing a tasty bitterness is never aggressive. Mouthfeel is super-comfortable with a full and slightly doughy body supported by lots of soft bubbles. Maybe a bit too tasty to be as seesionnable as like their own Jabby Brau, but this is nonetheless another kick-ass Jack’s Abby offering. Oh man I love craftbeer, I wish everybody loved craftbeer, I find it hard to watch my neighbour drink macro crap, mostly because she keeps her blinds closed.
Pours hazy gold into a stein. Bright white head pancakes as it recedes leaving chunky lacing. Sweet lemon and spicy rye and resin aromas. Soft and thin with sweet caramel upfront turning to pumpernickel before the lasting bitter lemon pith finish.
