4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour was a dark brown, red tints, with a thick two finger tan head that fell to a thin layer, larger bubbles clinging to glass. Aroma was a whiff of smokey goodness, not too much else, maybe a hint of malt sweetness. Taste was nicely balanced between smokiness, some malt character, some hints of dark sweet chocolate, maybe a but if caramel. Well balanced, nothing dominates. I am glad that this was not so over the top with aggressive smoke and roasted malts. Nicely carbonated, just enough tingle to clean it all up. Very pleased with this brew...not heavy or overdone, drinkable.
In tap at Hops and Pie poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, smoke, bakers cocoa and light coffee. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a smooth dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, bakers cocoa and light smoke with a smooth dry lingering roasty cocoa finish. MrTipple (5492) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 21, 2017

Draft at Mooney’s. Dark brown, small skin of head.Aroma is campfire and ashtray, some minor sweet malt. Taste brings in some chocolate, more sweetness, the smoke fades to the background. A nice porter with some smoky accents. DwarfeD (3540) - Amersfoort, NETHERLANDS - APR 23, 2017

And for our 40th style in 110 beers or so, we have the venerable Smoke and Dagger from local favorite Jack’s Abby. This pours a thick dark black with a thin head and has a nice roasty smoky coffee woodchip smell. The taste is intensely smoky and malty kind’ve like drinking coffee filtered through mesquite chips. My better half decries this as "garbage water" and actually dry heaved after sipping this so your mileage may vary, but if you are on the wave, this is a good beer. Good for putting out the sauces for your big passover shindig. fishdj120 (3) - East greenwich, Rhode Island, USA - APR 1, 2017 does not count
Just a hint of smokiness that lets the flavors of chocolate and coffee come through.
