Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Mocha head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet cinnamon and vanilla aromas. Medium bodied with cinnamon and oak upfront turning to a nice, hot smoky chipotle burn finish. Would be nice in the fall.

Draught at Brewer’s Fork, 7/30/15.
Deep cocoa-ebony liquid seems opaque or near that. Light tan head is small and dissipates rapidly.
Soft cinnamon-cocoa nose is not overdone with adjunct and allows light smoke to waft up out of the glass as well. Bits of vanilla, warm milk chocolate and light sweetness, with no spiciness from the jalapenos in the nose, nor very much bourbon barrel influence. Fine with me, though overall the aroma is pretty weak (to be fair, Smoke and Dagger is inherently a very reserved, understated beer with not a hue aroma). Clean, though with no alcohol noted.
Seemingly lighter than Smoke and Dagger (though the beer itself has lightened some over the years), with low carbonation, a watery texture and a very straightforward cinnamon-cocoa flavoring. Minimal spiciness from the chipotle, though it seems to add a bit more robustness to the smoke element, which is pretty subdued, overall. Fine, drinkable and impressive that nothing is overdone here.

Beer is actually better than its ratings, but I just didn’t fancy the aroma or appearance. ON tap at the brewery.... are there any better words than those? Sample glass. Watery brownish liquid. Biting cinnamon and pepper aroma. Not much lacing or head. Mouthfeel is lighter than I thought but it works here. Taste... well, I wasn’t expecting to like this, but wow did it grow on me after the first sip. The flavors all did a great job of blending together. The beer is actually just a delivery mechanism for the coco (not much) cinnamon, pepper and bourboney flavors. Real good stuff!

The scent is very sweet with hints of many flavors. The color is deep and dark with a hint of red to it. The flavor is excellent, with hints of cinnamon, chipotle and cacao all coming out in various depths. This is an excellent and complex beer for something less than 6% content. I didn't get much of the bourbon barrel flavor, but that's totally ok.
