A medium bodied beer with a red to amber color. There is a slight bitterness, but the taste and smell of the hops is subdued by the large amount of malt.

Tap. Pours quite hazy hazel, small beige head, decent lacing. Aroma is malty, nutty. Flavor is light sweet, very light bitter, malty, nutty, a bit smoky, lightly acidic. Medium body. Drinks like a so so Scottish.

Hazy amber pour with a white head. Watery aroma, grass, yeast, and lots of apple. Sort of a solvent aroma, some bread, toast, and lemon zest tartness. There’s a lot of lemon/sourness, grass, yeast, and apple skin. A bit of solvent character, bread, grass, and sort of an under-attenuated finish.

Growler thanks to larryLSB. One of the better ambers that I’ve had in awhile. Not a west coast red ala Hop Head or Red Rocket, but a nice woody-spicy hop aroma and flavor to counter a nutty, bread crust, and caramel-toffee malt profile. Lightly fruity with some raisin sweetness. Medium-light on the bitterness and pretty balanced in the finish with a definite nuttiness. Medium in body with smooth carbonation that the growler format probably helped out on. An amber that non-hopheads will like that still has an interesting hop profile and good balance.

Pours attractive clear ruddy brown with a thin light tan head. Light caramel sweetness in the nose and flavor with a bit of earthiness from the subtle hop profile. Solid Amber, though not a favorite style.

italarican (1550) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 16, 2010
Draft from a sampler at the San Ramon brewpub. A good looking pour of deep bright cranberry. Not much else going on. A little caramel malt in the nose and the flavor, but surprisingly little else. A tad watery.
