Strong, malty aroma has an earthy overtone and firm hints of cloves and caramel. Pours a clear warm sepia with a fizzy and none too persistent tan head. Rich flavor fills the mouth with malty, earthy and nutty notes plus hints of chocolate, caramel and cloves. Texture has good body, but fizz leaves something to be desired. This, however, is the beer’s only weak spot. Overall, an arresting doppelbock. SSSteve (4006) - - OCT 22, 2012
22oz bottle. my bottle say’s 7% abv. pours a clear deep garnet with no head. nose of tobacco, dark chocolate, vinous notes, cherry and toast. flavor of toast and cocoa. medium bodied, but with a slick mouthfeel. leaves a burnt toast finish...even gritty and ashy. Red amber and clear. Hoppy, grassy, malty and roasted nut on the nose. Palate is smooth and medium bodied with roasted nut flavors. rajendra82 (1102) - Alpharetta, Georgia, USA - OCT 13, 2012
Clear, auburn colored body, and a very small head were typical for the style. The aroma was difficult to discern due to its faintness. The smells I could detect were cherry, and some raisins. The taste was a bit more complex than the nose, with some semi-sweet chocolate, brown sugar, dates, and red grapes. There was a drying finish that I was not anticipating. The body felt about right for the style. Not bad. ljstephenson (250) - Enterprise, Alabama, USA - OCT 11, 2012
