Black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of huge chocolate and a hinto abv. Chocolate, abv, light abv, and a decent bitter. Medium full body with good carbonation. drunkenpolack (319) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - FEB 2, 2012
Midnight Special pours a almost pitch black. The head on this beer is beautiful. Smooth as silk and big. Sticks around forever. It looks like an awesome stout. Taste and smell consist of roasted malt, smokiness, earthiness, lactose sweetness, and of course the hops. Floral and citrus. Just really wonderful and maybe the best Black IPA, Cascadian Dark Ale, American Black Ale or whatever you want to call it that I’ve ever had. But maybe the most wonderful thing about this beer is the mouthfeel. One of the smoothest beers I’ve ever had in my life. fonefan (49996) - VestJylland, DENMARK - JAN 2, 2012

22 ounce bottle. Pours a totally black color with a medium beige head. The aroma is sweet chocolates and roast, some pine. The flavor is excellent; rich nutty flavors, roast, huge milky chocolate very light pine hops. Certainly a porter in terms of flavor. Very good. This poured a pitch black color with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, coffee, faint citrus, alcohol. The flavor is mainly chocolate and coffee. Some licorice is showing. The finish is bitter on this one. Overall this is about 90% stout, 10% IPA but I thought it was a nice beer. Suttree (6466) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 28, 2011
Heavy and chocolatey - more like a hoppy porter than a black IPA, but I may be splitting hairs here. Anyway, I got a lot of chocolate and a lot of hops. Kind of one dimensional, bu still tasty. tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - AUG 28, 2011
Sample at a tasting at Suttree’s. Pours reddish black with mauve head. The aroma is super chocolatey with an anise note, some vanilla, and some wood. The flavor is chocolatey with wood tones, nice and boozy, especially in the finish. Ample bitterness. Not bad, but given how chocolatey it is, perhaps they should have called it a strong porter. But whatever. brentfeesh (1208) - Mansfield, Ohio, USA - AUG 27, 2011
Black pour with minimal head. Very roast aroma with notes of chocolate and grain. Nice mix of hoppy profile with chocolate and coffee. In no way like an IPA. More of a great American porter. Yummy. Medium body with a lingering finish.
