Dark brown color...nearly opaque, with a generous light brown creamy head. The aroma was rich and complex...bourbon, wood, licorice, milk chocolate, prunes, vanilla, toffee, coffee. The flavor was very similar to the aroma...very sweet and rich. The feel was soft, not too thin...wet finish. Yummy!

Opaque black, not much head. Cold coffee, molasses in the nose. Licorice, toffee, a bit of chocolate. Tickling carbonation in the finish. Some alcohol burn in the aftertaste. Slightly unclean, maybe maize used? Suprisingly good and tasty, imho underrated FES in RB.

12oz bottle. Boom. One sip of this and I’m in the Caribbean. Sweet, rich, over the top. Opaque brown-black, thin beige head. Big brown sugary tones. Pungent dark fruit. Vanilla. Sticky, sugary finish coats the mouth. I’d say Caribbean Stout is an acquired taste, and that this really does the style justice even though I’m sure it’s overall rating won’t reflect that. Certainly mellows a bit as it sits and approaches room temperature. Rather brutal, like a high ABV Dunkel brewed with Candi sugar. A little hot, but overall a cool beer worth a try.

Finhead (1849) - OFallon, Illinois, USA - MAY 1, 2011
A black pour with some faint red highlights and a tan head. The aroma has some vanilla, alcohol, and a bit woody. The full body has a creamy texture with average carbonation. The taste is sweet with a slight dryness in the finish.

Bottle from world beers. Pours inky black with a dark tan head. Smells surprisingly boozy considering it’s 7.6%. Also chocolate. Not much alcohol in the taste. Lots of chocolate though and roasted malts. Pretty smooth. I like it.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours pitch black color with a small dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, light tobacco, light char, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and light-moderate dark fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, light char, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, light char, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of dark/roasted malt and light-moderate dark fruit flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Foreign stout style. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt and light-moderate dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on even with the low carbonation. A very enjoyable offering.

Had to pick up another 6 to rate since I didn't keep track of my rating and didn't have the info to add the beer. Black with almost no head. What foam there is, is dark brown. Slight film on the bottom of the bottle and deposit on the cap. Very strong lasting aroma of smoke, licorice, coffee and bitter chocolate. Very drinkable, not too sweet stout. 8% but alcohol flavour is not present at all. Could drink a few of these way too quick. A stout that I could see drinking on a very hot day. Nice body.

Black colored, medium beige head. Vinous tones, coffee and sweetness in aroma. Medium to full bodied. Vinous tones, chocolate, sweetness, medium alcohol in flavor, aftertaste is complex with licorice, dryness, mild alcohol and toffee.

Poured a very dark color, with a finger’s worth of very nice tan head. Aroma is heavy on black coffee and black chocolate. The taste is fairly similar to the aroma, though there is a good bit of toffee as well. Body is medium. A good example of the style with quite a bit of character.
