Bottle at Reading 2006 (Sunday) - thanks Duff. Dark, almost black with ruby hues when held to light. The mosty malty aroma is masked by lots of carbon dioxide coming off it. To taste this is sweet caramel and malt with restrained fruit character. A beer that is extremely easy to drink. thedm (6143) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 28, 2006
This bottled brew sampled at Dicks Bodacious Bar-B-Que RB event poured a small sized head of finely sized light brown colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left a poor lacing and a semi-opaque dark ruby red brown colored body. The aroma was sweetly malty. The mouth feel contained a mild malt bit but was otherwise unnoted. The flavor contained notes of this sweet malt and mild brown malts. hotstuff (5140) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 22, 2006
Bottle. Small tan head that quickly dissipated, poor lacing, transparent, minimal carbonation, and a red brown hue. Nose was malty, chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Flavor was malty, chocolate and smokey. Tingly palate. Light-medium body. Svesse (8573) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - APR 7, 2006
(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Colour is dark brown, almost black with firm off-white head. Nose is malty, roasted with lots of chocolate, black coffee and hops. Taste is roasted, dry and fruity with chocolate, liquorice and a hoppy, bitter finish. Brilliant! MI2CA (1340) - Noblesville, Indiana, USA - APR 4, 2006
Sample at Indy tasting Dick’s BBQ 3/31/06 - thanks MrWalker - Aroma is roasted dark malts and smoke. Pours cloudy dark brown with small head and good lacing. Flavor is roasted dark malts, chocolate, earthy, and smokey. Palate is sticky. Tasty brew. I may have to dig into the style a bit more.

500 ml bottle, via MrWalker. Clear brown body with chestnut highlights. Fluffy one inch light brown head with nice retention. Chocolate malt nose with some nuttiness and a lighter note of roasted malt. Alot of chocolate malt on the flavor as well, with a finish that leans to the astringent burnt malt side with hints of smoke. Moderate bitterness in mid swallow and finish. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation, thinning a bit on the finish. A nice enjoyable beer, not overly complex on the flavor, but certainly interesting enough to seek out if you’re a fan of Schwarzbiers. stouby (4653) - Holbæk, DENMARK - JAN 7, 2006
Bottle, at home.
Black with light brown head, almost diminishing, good lacings. Aroma moderate malty (burnt) and hoppy (flowers). Flavor moderate sweet and bitter, long duration. Light to medium body, oily, soft carbonated anders37 (26137) - Malmö, SWEDEN - DEC 23, 2005
Dark brown colour with a longlasting tan head. Roasted malt in the aroma. Hints of caramel and hops too. Lots of roasted taste and hints of chocolate. But lots of bitterness in the flavor aswell. A very nice one. pivo (2685) - GERMANY - DEC 22, 2005
Light chocolate and roasted malt nose, dark brown color, foamy low head Quick sweet taffee malt, peaty undertones. A little butterscotch is unfortunate in the middle. Powerful woody, roasted grain end. Lingering coffee-like bitter in the sides of the mouth. Medium body, metallic mouth feel. Big punch at first then a long tapering profile. Uhhhh Secret Santa Jonas - that was over yummie, thanks a lot: Nice dark brown color with some red bling bling. Small layer of a fizzy head. Nice malt, caramel and toffee nose. Toasted malt taste with caramel and nicely spicing up traces of coffee and cardamon. Dry finish - very nice.
