Draft at the brewpub - Poured a dark ruby red in color with almost no head and little other carbonation. Aroma was mild of malt and distinct of noble hops. Flavor was a little off balance to the hop bitter side, but who’s complaining. The finish was long and quite bitter. Very nice... mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - APR 12, 2005

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2008 Cloudy ruby color with a thin white head. Appealing aroma of malt, caramel and subtle hops, slightly sour too. Delicious flavor of malt and caramel with some sourness. Bitter finish. Light body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. It’s a true red ale with it’s malty character and delicious caramel.

Sampled both draught and bottled. Deep amber body and a soft, velvety off-white head. Aroma of fruity, toasted malts, dark maple syrup, and a touch of woody hops. Malty, bitter flavor with an odd calcium carbonate quality. Finishes fairly clean and bitter with very little cloying maltiness and a nice light smoky touch. Medium fullness on the palate. On tap at Vermont Brewers Fest. 3 oz sample. Grainy sour aroma with hints of malt. Murky dark cpper with a small white head. Start is rather sour, some bitterness, and just off. Malts in the middle. Finishes thin and watery. Some smoke to finish too. Not a fan of this at all. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 21, 2003
On tap at the brewpub. Murky brown/orange with a nice head. Light hops aroma, fizzy mouthfeel. Ends without much fanfare and burns the tongue. freekyp (2257) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - JUL 3, 2003
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2004 Woody reddish brown with no head. Uncharacteristically bitter for the style. Overly hoppy with little malt characer. A bit unbalanced finish. I would have liked a smoother mouthfeel with more pronounced malt character. Decent. Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 26, 2003
Deep amber brown color with a medium thick head and good lace. Slightly sweet hoppy aroma with a slight malt accent. Hoppy flavor with hints of nutty sweetness. Slightly dry and medium bodied.
