A distinctively darker bitter brewed with malt made from Maris Otter barley and the careful addition of amber malt, to give a nutty flavour that supports a subtle blend of English aromatic hops.

3.5% amber colour with a good head, hop and malt aroma, very nice malty bitter taste, very easy to drink.

(Cask at Roscoe Head, Liverpool, 25 July) Colour is mahogany with ruby hints, thick off-white head. Nose is malty and nutty with hints of dark fruit and chocolate. Taste is malty and nutty with notes of chocolate and dusty hops in the underlying bitterness. Dry finish. Malty, nice session bitter.

[email protected] Rest, Grasmere. Dullish muddy brown beer with a light head. The aroma is lightly caramel and the flavour is watery, slightly caramel and dry. Overall a nice quite nutty, dry and caramel/toffee beer.

Cask, The Strands Hotel, Nether Wasdale. Amber with a rocky off white head. Aromas are malty with weetabix notes, especially. Clean and fresh on the nose. Flavours are malty and lightly fruity. Tasty for its strength.

harrisoni (19171) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 23, 2007
Cask handpull at The Lion Tavern, Liverpool. Deep chestnut colour with lasting beige head. Nutty malty bitter with some sweet date fruit later in the palate. Faint malt aroma. Soft in mouth. Bit of hop on end. Decent session bitter, light of character, but with enough flavour to make it suppable.

mr_h (5841) - Ayr, SCOTLAND - MAY 2, 2013
Cask by handpump at Hengler’s Circus, Glasgow - clear amber brown, thin bubbly off-white head, mild malty aroma, good lacing, caramel malt flavour, creamy malt texture, bit bland, easy to drink

Cask at the Fish Hotel, Buttermere. Chestnut-hued with a cream-coloured head. Caramel at first with a blackcurrant fruitiness coming through. Not bad- I do prefer darker-hued bitters like this; far too many bitters are too pale these days.

chriso (7586) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 1, 2004
Reddish copper colour. Burnt malt aroma - slightly undeveloped with a hint of smoke and a touch of sulphur. Dry, dusty malt flavours with some fruit accents and a fair amount of bitterness. Has a rather autumnal feel to it. Thin mouthfeel, but easy drinking. Not spectacular, but better, and with more character, than I anticipated. Cask (gravity) at Twickenham Beer Festival.
