Cask @ The Hermitage, Warkworth, Northumberland. Rich dark brown solid colour. Off white head which holds the glass well. Medium body and bitterness, fruit cake flavours with an nice tang which lasts. One of Jennings better brews.

Deep, dark ruby colour. Thin but rich and creamy off-white head. Heavy lacing coats the glass. Subdued aroma reveals little. Taste rich with malt, tangy bitterness, heavy profile of stewed fruit, toffee, chocolate, wood fire, first sweet then moderately bitter for an overall balanced character. Luxuriously thick body but surprisingly quick finish making this a very moreish pint. A good strong bitter that warms the veins but it could be said there is too much going on to fully appreciate, at least to this neophyte.

Cask HP at The Crosse Keys Bishopsgate as Jennings Sneck Lifter. Easy to find a bottle, but cask can be evasive. Dark brown, opaque, an orange hue when held to light, foamy tan head. Aroma is toasted teacake, currants, mechanic’s toolbox (not a euphemism). Body is smooth with light carbonation. Taste is Christmas pudding, raisin cake, bourbon biscuit, resinous, some toasty ash notes. Great balance. A different beast to the bottled version. Very drinkable for style. Surprised how much I enjoyed this one.

Draught at Linen Weaver. Dark mahogany with a soapy head. Liquorice dominates the aroma. Flavour has some nice burnt notes, quite dry and bitter.

Cask. Dark chestnut with white top. Aroma of biscuit malts. Taste of caramel, syrup and dark fruit, dates, prunes. Full bodied with a lasting coat to the palate. This used to be a rare treat in my Lancastrian youth when real ale was scarce and it still pleases even if it is less exceptional. All I lacks is a winter night and an open fire.

Appearance: Unclear amber-ish color with a nice tan head.
Aroma: Toffee and fruity.
Palate: Medium body. Tad sweet with an ok bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Toffee, fruity, bready and mild roasted.
Overall impression: Nice tasty ale when you get bored with all the dull blonde and bitter cask ale.
Personal stats: On tap at J.J. Moon’s in Tooting/Wimbledon, England
