Beachtimez Sportzketball — our Grisette refermented with Texas loquats brewed in collaboration with Green Bench Brewing Co. in Saint Petersburg, Florida!

Green Bench, in my opinion, is one of the best makers in the world of Grisette-inspired beer. According to Phil Markowski’s Farmhouse Ales, Grisette was a low alcohol, dry, and refreshing style of beer that originated in the late 1,800’s along the modern day Franco-Belgian border to serve a growing population of stone and coal miners. I first tasted Green Bench’s Grisette last summer, and instantly became a huge fan of their interpretation of the style. We sought to achieve the wonderful, starchy, grainy malt complexity of their Grisette, along with its quenching, lactic sourness. Beachtimez Sportzketball can be considered as an ode to Green Bench Les Grisettes, but with the local touch of Texas loquats. Loquats, by the way, hang from the branches of a lot of trees around town during the spring in Austin. We considered a nighttime guerilla raid to get them, but fortunately some local friends and Jester King employees helped us out!

The artwork for Beachtimez Sportzketball, created by our in-house artist Josh Cockrell, was inspired by spending an afternoon at the beach in Saint Petersburg, Florida with Khris, Dan, and Kristin of Green Bench playing frisbee and tackle touch football. The photography above is by Tyler Malone of The Second Shooter.

Beachtimez Sportzketball was brewed on March 24, 2016 with Hill Country well water, malted barley, malted wheat, raw wheat, and hops. It was fermented in stainless steel with our mixed culture of brewers yeast, and native yeast and bacteria harvested from the land and air around our brewery. It was then refermented in stainless steel with loquats grown here in central Texas. It was then packaged on April 26, 2016 and 100% naturally conditioned in bottles, kegs, and casks. Around the time of packaging, Beachtimez Sportzketball was 4.5% alcohol by volume, 26 IBU, 3.6 pH, and had a specific gravity of 1.000 (0 degrees Plato).

Bottle shared by Paul at Old Brotopia with Brendan and Andrew. Pours a golden yellow body with white head. Nose is citrus fruits - lemon, bitter grapefruit, and soft tart grains. Mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with noticeable carbonation and notes of dry lemon, tart wheat, light acidity across the palate and soft grapefruit.

L42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Leighton. Light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Airy palate, dry and with decent fine carbonation. Dry malts, sweetish. Mild floral vibe. Touches of lemon and lemon sherbet. Light dry finish. A bit dry but nice mild lemon.

Sample at First Draft Taproom during the "CSA ALL DAY" event on 10/06/2017. Hazy yellow-gold color with a thin white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of fruit, funky yeast, wheat and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of citrus, yeast, wheat and grainy malt. The finish is mildly funky with a fruity yeast aftertaste. Above average overall.

had from bottle .. . hazy amber gold .. . mild citrus, grain, summer fruit, mild funk .. mouth is a bit on the light side .. finish drops off quick. This beer is nothing now but should funk up a bit if JKs history of these types stays in line .. . . Killbox live

On tap at Jester King, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of rustic farmhouse yeast, earthy and light spiciness. Flavour is earthy and dry, with rustic farmhouse yeast, light spiciness, and dry grains. Dry and wonderfully attenuated. Excellent.

Hazy straw golden under a thin white foamy top. Lovely lemon zest and funky bretty undertones and a light hay malty base. Brisk semidry and funky flavor with a bright tree fruity juicy backbone that’s not sweet but has a pleasant fruity tartness under the gentle funk and hay tones. Bright and fun.

(750ml bottle) Pours a lightly hazy yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of lemon peel, florals, grass, and pepper. Flavor of florals, earth, grass, lemon peel, and straw with a dry finish.

HUGE THANKS to Compton25 for the bottle. 750 ml. bottle split by 4. Hazy citrus golden, soapy white head. I have never had a Loquat so no context there. Nose is very soapy big soapy with vaguely sour citrus fruit that I cannot place. Taste is soapy fruit, fruit is nice, vaguely juicy sour, fruity, reminds me a bit of a Mirabelle Plum, plaster. Easy drinking very mellow funk, odd soapy profile is a bit too high. Decent but I expect more from Jester King but it seems like no longer everything that they make is brilliant.

25.4floz (750ml) bottle, 4% ABV, freshness not mark, so this may be from last year (or not). I paid $13, and poured the contents into a tulip glass. Appears a hazy straw yellow with small retentive layer of white head. Smells kinda like dish soap water, which really isn't as bad as that seems. Out of the sparkling light palate are floral and husky grain flavors. This is pretty good stuff.
