Ambrée was inspired by the rustic farmhouse ales of French Flanders, particularly those brewed by Brasserie Thiriez in Esquelbecq — one of our favorite breweries in the world. Ambrée is a dry, tart, naturally conditioned amber ale fermented and matured with dozens of different strains of brewers’ yeast, native wild yeast, brettanomyces yeast, and souring bacteria. It’s 6.4% alcohol by volume, has a finishing gravity of 1.005, and is 3.5 pH.

[email protected] Reddish brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some mild sour wooden notes as well as mild spiciness and some yeast. Flavour is quite similar, but also has some red berries and a nice tartness to go along with it. Wellbalanced, and quite smooth palate.

4/VII/15 - 75cl bottle @ RBBSG IV - BB: n/a, bottled: X/9/14, batch #2 (2015-880) Thanks to ElManana+1 for sharing the bottle!

Clear amber to red brown beer, small creamy irregular off-white head, unstable, non adhesive, dissipates immediately. Aroma: very fruity, bit dirty, band-aid, chemical, rubbery touch. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very sourish start, funky, chemical, rubbery, band-aid, some vinegar. Aftertaste: bit fruity, dirty, skunky, infected, vinegar, unpleasant bitterness. Another failed attempt at sour ale by the Americans... or how patriotism can cloud opinions... And of course 77ships is digging it. Says enough, I guess. :p

Batch #1. Could swear I had rated this, but going from memory. Thanks to Errl for this one! Slightly cloudy reddish light brown. Nose of wet wood, light fresh and dried red fruit, soured malt. Taste followed with nice caramelized richness, tart cherries, light yeast spice. Really liked this one.

750 ml. bottle. Purchased @ Bierhalle Deconinck. Batch #2 – 10.09.2014. 7.4 % ABV. FG 1.005. IBU 29. Deep dark pomegranate amber, small creamy mocha head. Nose is hugely vinous, huge wine barrel with an odd mix of some coffee, sweetish red berry sour malt, caramel & even more tannins and wine. Taste is oddly sweet mix of coffee and red wine, oak, tannins, barrel, red berries, fermenting strawberry, cranberry, redcurrant, caramel, sweet cherries, citrus,… Quite a lot of coffee in the taste, like coffee mixed with very sweet red wine. Oddly sweet, hugely vinous & funky at the same time,… Creamy red fruit body but also somewhat light. Odd but pleasant & interesting. Quite a unique mix of flavours. The text on the label is hilariously sarcastic.
