This beer is now retired. All bottles from Batch 16 onward should be rated under the new Farmhouse Black Metal entry as they are brewed using a wild yeast blend, not the French Saison yeast used in the original Farmhouse Black Metal.

English Imperial Stout meets the Franco-Belgian Farmhouse tradition in this dry, drinkable beer; Pitch black in color with notes of chocolate, roasted and black malts coupled with earthy, peppery and floral farmhouse esters.

Note: This Farmhouse version replaced the original Black Metal Imperial Stout when Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all beers. The original bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; newer bottles do not have this sticker and say "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

Danyel (1606) - Colorado, USA - AUG 31, 2014
Bottle. Pours black with deep tan head. Aroma is very chocolatey, roasty. Taste is thick, chocolate, rich, dry finish. Exceptional.

chiiidog (42) - Lubbock, Texas, USA - AUG 29, 2014
The farmhouse yeast makes this beer interesting. Without that, it would be an average imperial stout. But I like the addition of the farmhouse yeast. Gives it a carbonated kick and an interesting flavor & mouthfeel.

Habanero (4681) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK, DENMARK - AUG 8, 2014
Bottled. Pours pitch black with an average, lacing and tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, coffee, notes of vanilla and yeast. Sweet flavor that ends up dry, with alcohol and slightly bitter. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation.

olsvammel (7225) - Örebro, SWEDEN - AUG 7, 2014
Bottle from Systembolaget (order through Galatea). Musty and malty smell with coffee, roasted and chocolate. Similar taste. Light body. High carbonation. Very tasty.

750ml bottle, the bottle was a little too aged. Sweet and thick, molassesy and rich. A little one dimensional

jesperhammer (4736) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUL 21, 2014
12-JUL-2014, bottle @Kregme. Black with low tan head. Roast and brett. Works very well here. Chocolate, spice, leather. Full body, above average carbonation, sweet. Wonderfull.

GothGargoyle (2587) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 11, 2014
Black with a chocolate head. Aroma is chocolate, cocoa, blackcurrant, hint of wood. Creamy mouthfeel, rich on the palate with a slightly roasty finish. Flavours are chocolate, cranberry, toasted malts, touch of farmhouse spice.

budznsudz (582) - Audubon, New Jersey, USA - JUL 11, 2014
Dark black pour with a thick brown head. Aroma of dark licorice, smoke, brett, and heavy roast. Taste is heavy roast, sour fruit, horse blanket, and cocoa. Very nice.

superspak (5600) - Michigan, USA - JUL 8, 2014
750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled in 3/2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger fairly dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, smoke, light char, pepper, raisin, fig, light licorice, and roast/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of big dark/roasted malt and moderate fruity/spicy yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, smoke, light char, pepper, raisin, fig, light licorice, and roast/yeast earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness and earthy yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, toast, dark bread, smoke, light char, pepper, raisin, fig, and roast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity of big dark/roasted malt and light-moderate yeast ester flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome Belgian imperial stout. All around great complexity and robustness of big dark/roasted malt and moderate fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
