This beer is now retired. All bottles from Batch 16 onward should be rated under the new Farmhouse Black Metal entry as they are brewed using a wild yeast blend, not the French Saison yeast used in the original Farmhouse Black Metal.

English Imperial Stout meets the Franco-Belgian Farmhouse tradition in this dry, drinkable beer; Pitch black in color with notes of chocolate, roasted and black malts coupled with earthy, peppery and floral farmhouse esters.

Note: This Farmhouse version replaced the original Black Metal Imperial Stout when Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all beers. The original bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; newer bottles do not have this sticker and say "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

Draft - Roast malts and chocolate. Jet black with a creamy brown head. Roast malts, with a funky vinegar sourness that finishes long and chocolaty. Cool.

Eye: Black with a large, brown head.
Nose: Cold coffee, cocoa, licorice, roasted malt and sour berries.
Mouth: Dry and somewhat thin.
Tongue: Coffee, licorice, smoke, dry smoke and charcoal.
Brain:An interesting cross between American Imperial Stout and Belgian Strong Ale, but it is nothing I would buy again.

750ml bottle from Proof (I think). Blackish pour ridiculous brown head. Aroma of espresso, roasty, booze, cocoa, farmhouse. Tastes are same as nose with light spice, strong coffee and a milky lactic texture. Better as it warmed. Very interesting.

Big ass bottle. Poured a black color with a khaki head. Taste of cocoa malts, rich, milk chocolate, fudge, boozy and woody. High carbonation, thick carbonation.

.75 bottle. Black, mocka head. Dark berry, dry dark chocolate, roasted, slight vinous nose. Good full body. Light finish tho. Nothing sweet here, but sort of savoury, slight soy sauce.. Nice, but non too increadible. Haven’t tried the non-farmhouse version, but would guess this is a bit lighter, drier. Was expecting a bit more. But nice also not to be overrun with everything. And the vinous note..

nazzty (1376) - Ödåkra - Helsingborg, SWEDEN - MAR 28, 2014
Carbon black liquid with golden brown foam. The flavor of coffee, dark syrup, chocolate and a hint of malt sweetness.

Uansett gir denne ganglag for sjelen.

On bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika . Black color, good brownish foam. Roasted Aromas, yeast, malt, chocolate : medium/ high intensity. Full body & high complexity. Good bitterness & balance . Very enjoyable

75cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian - thanks! Pours very dark with a small, beige head. Moderate roasty aroma with dark malts, dark fruits, hints of chocolate and hops. Medium sweet with nice roasty notes and a light bitterness. Nice stuff!

Holmen2 (3638) - NORWAY - MAR 24, 2014
Black with short brown head. Alcohol and dark malts in aroma. Slightly better taste, but it’s still crude. Bitter aftertaste.
