25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a thick, foamy tan head. Nose is chocolate, coffee, caramel, oats, light smoke and hay. Medium to full body, a bit chalky with a tang and spicy tongue tip burn. Taste starts with a huge slap of intense coffee and smoky chipotle. Sweet citrus compliments the rich chocolate base. Finishing as silky and seductive as the opening is brash. _angst_ (4810) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - OCT 9, 2012

Bottle:   Black, thin beige sudsy head, little lacing.   Roasty nose, chocolate, a little spicy too.   Roasty on the tongue, sweet, a little milky, chocolate, with a soft spicy chili pepper aspect.   Thankfully its not too overpowering.   Chili pepper comes out more as it warms up.   Roastiness dies down, chocolate (dark) comes out as well.   Does appear to have a little bit of smokiness to it.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   The spiciness creep sup after the finish on this one.   Not a hoppy example, or too heavy.   Clean, easy to drink, and well balanced.   Thanks Bill! ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - SEP 27, 2012
It pours a very deep and rich black color with a thick, almost menacing, medium brown colored head. Its aroma is so rich and roasted that it’s bitter, but with noticeable notes of chocolate malts, a warmth in the nose much like that of a chile pepper chocolate bar, and a tease of alcohol. I don’t normally notice peppers in the nose like this.
It’s much lighter in the mouth as I expected this to be (1.013 FG is pretty light, after all), which prevents this extremely rich beer from completely clogging up your senses (and gut). The oats are present in just the right amount to add a hint of smoothness, while not noticeably contributing to its flavor - which is dominated by a very nice balance of coffee, chocolate malts, and a touch of chipotle. The smokiness of the chipotle also adds a nice characteristic of smoke without making the beer actually taste like smoke or smoked malts. This was definitely a good idea for a recipe, well-balanced, and well executed.
While still extremely rich on the palate, it’s still very easy to drink. It finishes with an almost medicine-like flavor of alcohol and chocolate peppers. ...That’s my kind of medicine. I’ll hold on to a bottle of this to age a few years and give you another update in 2015. Leighton (22019) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 26, 2012
Draft at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours oily black with a big, brown foam head. Dark malt nose, burnt wood, faint plastic, very fant chilies, some age. medium to big sweet flavor, strong roasted malts, dark chocolate, decent bit of spicy heat, some peaty earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate warmth to finish, the spiciness picks up a bit, especially in the throat, but it’s just about the perfect level of spice - not too much, not too little. Pretty nice chili impy.

Opaque black with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, cocoa, chipotle, and alcohol. Taste of roast, smoke, dark fruits, dark chocolate, light alcohol, and a faint spiciness from the peppers. bhensonb (15601) - Woodland, California, USA - SEP 1, 2012
Capped 750 from ericandersnavy. Pours dark brown/black with a slight dark tan head. Aroma is hot (spice) and coffee. Full bodied. Flavor is hot spice and coffee over smooth burnt malt. Seems to be treacle in it. Finishes pretty much that way. Nice. Marsiblursi (3076) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 1, 2012
(Draught) Pours black with a small head. The aroma holds coffee, rum raisins, vanilla, green chilly, asphalt, touch of smoke, blueberries, mint and hops. The flavour is light to medium sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with balanced chilly, deep roasted coffee, vanilla, sour berries, violet, grass, touch of smoke, asphalt and hops. The mouthfeel is round, fat, oily and smooth with a light carbonation. Balanced roasted and chilly-like finish. Near full bodied. marcus (10559) - Sacramento, California, USA - AUG 31, 2012
