COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beer geeks and rodeos don’t often go together, but if ever there were a place where the two would meet, it would be Denmark No one from Jester King has ever been to Denmark, but our friends Mikkel and Thomas tell us the entire country is inhabited by craft beer drinking, spicy food loving Viking cowboys and cowgirls, and we think that sounds awesome. So as they say in Danish, bunden i vejret eller resten i haret, which we believe is pro-nounced “Yee-haw!” Jester King Craft Brewery is an authentic farm-house brewery in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, on the outskirts of Austin. We brew what we like, drink what we want and offer the rest to those who share our tastes.

Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with smoked malt, chipotle peppers and Vietnamese coffee.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, subtle coffee, slight chili heat, subtle smoke and a weird herbal note. The flavor follows the nose with the chili gaining the more you drink it, I get some subtle coffee and subtle smoke, dark chocolate and the alcohol is very well hidden. The body is on the bigger side of medium with a creamy mouth feel. Overall a pretty good brew, but I expected much more from it!

Pours pretty damn black with a large brown head that fades to a thin layer of foam. Aroma is intense with coffee, fudge, smoke, earth, slight chili, and whisps of fudge in the background. Flavor is equally intense with a sweet fudge and espresso malt that is quickly joined with the strong coffee, subtle smoke, and a slight earthy, smoky heat. Finishes with the chilies and smoke making themselves a bit more known than before, but the coffee bitterness is still very flavorful with a subtle dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, but it’s tough to tell if its hot from alcohol or peppers. Either way, if this had a fruity element, it’d be awesome, but otherwise it’s still pretty great.

On tap. Pours an opaque deep black with a creamy light brown head. Very thick roasty aroma, slightly coffeeish. Rich body, yet with a fairly dry roastiness and what appears as a slight chili bite. Ends malty bitter. An interesting brew indeed that doesn’t appear nowhere near 10.1% 120512

Draught. Good roasted aroma. Black colour. Small dark brown head. The flavour is roasted with a burning sensation. Like chili, perhaps hop burn but there is not so much hop flavour. Must be chili.
