Bottle from Rosebud Butternuts. Cheers, Eric! Pours a deep motor oil color with a tan head. Nose is roast, big kopi, coffee, earth, some light peat character, dark chocolate, earthy peppers, some light oak, vanilla, and more earth. Flavor is wonderfully complex like only a stout can be: earth, peat, moves to whiskey, vanilla, oak, chocolate, cocoa, kopi, coffee, black coffee, chocolate bar, then finishing somewhat dry with earthy peppers and light heat on the back end. At my small apartment with friends. Pours motor oil black with zero head. The beer is flat. Aroma is dark currents, burnt notes, some coffee, water, bourbon, oak. Taste is thick burnt coffee, blackened marshmallow, dark roasted malt, decent bourbon booze notes. The beer is pretty good, but hard to justify the big price and difficulty to get it. Opened a bottle for this past new years. The previous time I had this beer was about a year before more of less. Aged pretty decently, though it had definitely faded a bit by this point. I recall this beer never really being big on the coffee flavor, tasted a bit of bourbon, and slightly chocolately. Still very glad to try this beer again. Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thanks Stephen! Dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of thick chocolate, roast, whiskey, hints of oak, slight vanilla in there, hints of earthy, spicy, slight chili pepper notes in there as well, nice smoke, big coffee as well. 750mL bottle. Poured viscous deep brown with a rich, quite dark brown head. The aroma picked up very enjoyable, semi-sweet coffee paired with toasty, spicy whiskey, oak barrel, and deep notes of vanilla bean.. complementary smoked peppers on the back of the nose.. great! The flavor found near-burnt coffee, licorice, and smoked chocolatey notes at the core, with smoky whiskey and tasty dried peppers through the finish.. peppery warmth built as the drink progressed, and had quite a kick with the alcohol on the finish.. tasty stuff! Heavier-bodied with silky, higher carbonation on the palate.. spicy and barrel-y, but everything worked well together.. I really enjoyed the use of the peppers in here.
