750 ML bottle
Black pour with a dark tan head.
Nose is coffee, oak, whisky, chocolate, and slight chipolte pepper. Slightly faded coffee and pepper nose.
Taste is at first coffee and oak, followed by whisky chocolate and dark fruits. Well balanced but faded.
Palate once opened up is a lot of chipolte. Good amount of burn from the peppers. Well hidden alcohol and quite nice even though faded. mikem409 (2029) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - SEP 5, 2013

Bought this bottle 9/1/2012, popped it today for Father’s Day (gift to myself).
Served at 50 degrees in a Jester King tulip.
A: Deep black with a khaki head that is pretty vigorous and sticks around for a while. This then fades to a halo around the edges of the glass that laces a bit.
S: Smells very similar to Black Metal, but there is a kick behind it. I can get a touch of the peppers, and more so of the whiskey, but overall it is very similar to BM.
T: Again, BM-like, and very restrained for being a pepper beer. I am not a fan of a lot of pepper beers, but this one does it right. The pepper is there, but not excessive or burning, just a touch on the aftertaste to let you know it was in the batch. Also, the whiskey is a lot more mild flavored than I expected, but that may be from the 9 months of aging.
M: Smooth, velvety, thick and oily, but not TOO thick. Pretty nice for a stout, about what I would ask for.
D: For such a strong beer, and for being a beer with whiskey and peppers, this goes down too easily. phaleslu (10670) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 30, 2013
750 ml bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks again, Blake! Pours an opaque near-black color with a small dark tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, oak, whiskey, roast, dark chocolate, and pepper. Flavor of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, whiskey, and pepper on the finish. Got the whiskey booze without as much of the barrel subtlety. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a roasty, spicy mouthfeel. The best of the Rodeo collaboration trio but I think they all could have been better.

Bottle. Pours with a black hued body with a tan head. Great lace and retention. Aromas are leathery, red fruit, plums, estery, coffee and mild smoke. Light barrel notes. Flavors are of nougat, coffee, dark fruit and a touch of acidity. Lots of nutty notes, roast, light smoke. Medium bodied for how big it is, fuller carbonation. Mild barrel. sfhodense (4788) - Odense NØ, DENMARK - MAR 5, 2013
@BBF12. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, liquorish, light whiskey and coffee. Flavour is roasted malt, alcohol, chocolate, coffee, whiskey and liquorish. brokensail (16645) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 25, 2013
Black pour with a rather tall mocha head. The nose is a bit tart and metallic, kind of a green apple note to it. Otherwise, some good roasted malt, vanilla, whiskey, and coffee notes. A bit of dark chocolate and oak, too. The flavor has a nice roast character, some hints of vanilla, whiskey, and coffee. A definite char flavor, some alcohol, dark chocolate, and a tart, green apple finish. Palme (4823) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 8, 2013
From 0.75l bottle @ Borefts 2012. It’s as good as jet black in the glass this one, but the head glimmers with it’s absence. On the nose is amazingly lovely. Vanilla roasted coconut with rich buttery chocolate and deep dark Brazilianized amazonian coffee on wood with some brown muscavado sugar on the side. Rich and lovely aromatic. It has a small prickling carbonation level and a rich oily mouthfeel. The taste is also somewhat vanilla infused, lot’s of fantastic cold coffee, deep roasted goodness, bitter dark chocolate and it ends with a throat-warming chili-like alcohol burning. Really fancypancy stuff that I enjoyed to the maximum. 28.09.2012 fonefan (51099) - VestJylland, DENMARK - FEB 6, 2013
Bottle 750ml. @ 4th Borefts Beer Festival 2012, Brouwerij de Molen, Bodegraven, Netherlands.
Clear dark black brown colour with virtually none head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, beery, malty, barrel - earthy notes. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, dark malt, dark chocolate, artificial sweet and artificial berries ? maybe it is the chipotle pepper. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
