COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re pleased to introduce Jester King 2016 Vernal Dichotomous — our farmhouse ale brewed with grilled lemons and smoked paprika. Like a number of the beers we make, we took inspiration from the culinary world. In our opinion, brewing beer is an extension of cooking. In this case, we loosely mimicked a very simple, but delicious seafood preparation — grilling, a squeeze of lemon, and a dash of smoked paprika. 2016 Vernal Dichotomous was brewed in June of 2016 with Two Row malted barley from Blacklands Malt, Vienna, Spelt, Rye, hops, grilled lemons, and smoked paprika. The grilled lemons and smoked paprika were added at the end of the boil. It was fermented in stainless steel with our mixed culture of brewers yeast, native yeast, and native bacteria. It was then packaged in August, and 100% naturally refermented. At the time of packaging, 2016 Vernal Dichotomous was 5.2% alcohol by volume, 25 IBU, 4.2 pH, and had a gravity of 1.002 (0.5 Plato).

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2018 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured hazy amber color with an average frothy white head that was lasting with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy yeast, lemon and smoke aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sour & sweet flavor with a medium sour & sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

6/6/17. 750mL bottle enjoyed at an awesome tasting alongside all of the (current) Dichotomous series! Thanks, Derek! Not my favotie, but others at the tasting really loved it. I think it just wasn’t my thing because of the grilled lemons and smoked paprika. Orange pour with a nice khaki head. Grilled lemons and smoked paprika really pop on the aroma - the smoke is a touch too much for me, comes across phenolic. Lightly funky and farmhouse flavor, grilled lemon and smoked paprika pops again. Not bad.

750ml bottle obtained in a trade. Pours golden yellow with a big fizzy/frothy off white slowly dissipating head. Very carbonated look with honeycomb shaped bubbles. Smells very lemony tart with a distinct smoke to it as well. Very straight forward by the description. Has a simple pils aroma as well. Small malt. The lemons and the smoke really come through on the nose though, that is the main aroma. Tastes lemony tart throughout with a huge smokey profile. Thats basically it. A bit of a slowly dying bitter finish. The lemon is nice, the smoke is meh, the rest is just light and subtle. Light mouthfeel with an ok bitter aftertaste. OK.

Dough. Tart fruit (lemon). Funk. Pale cloudy yellow gold. Bright white foamy head that fades down to a thin layer of foam and a lot of lacing. Lemony. Funky. Yeasty. A hint of spice. Tart finish. Very nice.
