COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ale brewed with nearly three pounds of hops per barrel and 15% malted rye. Dry, flavorful, drinkable beer with vibrant notes of citrus, tropical fruit and pine.

Note: This entry is the original Wytchmaker. Beginning around the time of their first anniversary, Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all of their beers. All ratings after this switch should be entered under the Farmhouse Wytchmaker Rye IPA entry. The original Wytchmaker bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; the Farmhouse Wytchmaker bottles have the word "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours an almost clear deep golden with a huge and lively off-white head leaving quite some lacework. Fresh, citrusy hops - and a little yeast. Medium body, a very dry fruitiness, very citrusy hops leaving an astringent bitterness. 020212

Slight haze on this amber beer. Massive off white head. Palate is airy and crispy. Smooth hops - a little minty, pine too. Mild tropical fruits. A little rye spice. Good stuff.

Slow gusher. Light hazy orange with a big and lasting off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and rather hoppy - peach and grapefruit. Flavor is quite sweet and very bitter. Rather dry and very bitter finish. Could have used a little more sweetness for balance. 240212

Bottle shared at Pibar, Lausanne
Cloudy amber color, with dull hue, and large frothy head (the bottle is a slow gusher). The aroma is very nice, fresh hops, with light spicy character and a touch of cedar. Still too much carbonation, having an impact on the mouthfeel; malt flavor, with strong spicy character, leaning to cardamom and cedar; strong bitterness, with plenty of good hop resins, and some hop fruitiness, bitter oranges; long final.
Complex, not elegant, but very interesting.
