Orchard Gate Gold is fermented naturally in small artisanal batches from a proprietary blend of organic apples grown here at our Koan Family Orchards in Michigan. We have produced hard ciders here since the 1860s. This is the same traditional recipe that helped save our farm during the great depression. There will be slight variations from batch to batch, just as nature makes no two apples alike! Enjoy our authentic hand bottled American Farmhouse "Scrumpy" Cider with family, friends & food.

Pint can poured to a Czech-pils glass at Lunar Brewing Co., displaying a hazed gold color, with a bubbly layer that quickly diminished to no head, film, or lacing. The nose was fruity perfume, sweet apple, and light spice. Light bodied, with very low carbonation, the taste was similar notes as the aroma, quite sweet, and 6% that wasn't very forthcoming. Tasty enough, but to appreciate and finish 16 oz., I need less sweetness, and a dryer finish.

Pint can, Wine Warehouse. Pours light gold. Aroma is apples all the way - somewhat sweet smelling. Flavor is crisp but sweet apple - actually quite good - very appley and not cloying. Just the fainted bit of carbonation makes this really good. I'm not a fan of sweet ciders, but this is tasty - this is a step above in the sweet category.

650mL bottle, pours a clear pale golden with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out medium apple sweetness, with a little farmhouse funk, and some light tannins. Flavour is quite sweet for a scrumpy, with very little farmhouse character, with medium sweet apples. Drinks easy like juice. Not very scrumpy-like to me, but it’s very nice for what it is.

Cloudy, light tan. No head, of course. Apple juice aroma with just light tannins. Very sweet, though, on the palate. The tannins aren’t enough to cover the overt sweet nature of this. The apple character is fresh, but it’s too much like juice for me, and not enough like a nice, alcoholic scrumpy.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a minimal head, over a cloudy dark yellow (SRM 4) body......nose is apple, mild acid.....taste is moderately honey sweet, with apple, hints of cinnamon spice, mild tart acid which cleans the finish......mouth feel, light almost watery body, no alcohol, light carbonation, with mild acid. This is a moderately more complex cider than many on the market which taste like fermented Red Delicious apples. This seems to have some Granny Smith in it. BJCP 7/3/14/4/6
