Orchard Gate Gold is fermented naturally in small artisanal batches from a proprietary blend of organic apples grown here at our Koan Family Orchards in Michigan. We have produced hard ciders here since the 1860s. This is the same traditional recipe that helped save our farm during the great depression. There will be slight variations from batch to batch, just as nature makes no two apples alike! Enjoy our authentic hand bottled American Farmhouse "Scrumpy" Cider with family, friends & food.

From a bottle. Incredibly pale pour, no head, very clear. Very sweet in both flavor and aroma, with some clean, cheap apple. No complexity or yeast to speak of... just cheap, filtered and fermented apple juice. The worst cider I’ve had by far.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2012 Very rich and sweet cider. Full bodied and lush. Immediate and fresh apple flavors fill the mouth. Slightly tarter finish. And definite notes of alcohol, like any well-made cider. Very good. Goes superbly with sweet & spicy roast pork and vegetables on egg noodles. Tried again tonight, knowing how much I liked it the first time. This is one of the most delicious beverages I have ever consumed; almost up there with the legendary Rodenbach Grand Cru. A simply delicious beverage. Sweet in the finish, but not too sweet. If Plato had a form in mind for the very essence of the apple, it would be this fine cider. Perfect.

Bottle. Hazy gold with floaties mixed throughout. Only random surface bubbles and no real head to speak of. Aroma is sweet, ripened apples, some sugary notes followed by light tart apple and apple skins. Taste is very sweet almost like a kids apple juice. Light apple skin flavors and ripe apples. Surprisingly this is very sweet and rather uncarbonated, unlike most ciders. Body is light and rather still. Very sticky sweet. Finishes with a bit of a bite. Some signs that it is at least fermented. More sweet apples, apple skins, light green apples and a bit of sugary sweetness.

Pour is a bright yellow/gold. Aroma is obvious able cider with a good tart character. The flavor is earthy and fairly complex for a hard cider. Nice.

Pours an orange yellow color with some slight carbonation that quickly dissapates. Aroma is sweet candied apples. Very sweet flavor, but of fizz on the tongue, alcohol present when swalled. Brown sugar finish. Overall, interesting taste.

Smells like, well, apples, as one might guess. flavor is apples, too, and very clean and not cloying or medicinal. Some sugary notes, too. Also seems a bit heavy, too. Tasty, but definately not something to drink a lot of at on sittiing.
