COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Orchard Gate Gold is fermented naturally in small artisanal batches from a proprietary blend of organic apples grown here at our Koan Family Orchards in Michigan. We have produced hard ciders here since the 1860s. This is the same traditional recipe that helped save our farm during the great depression. There will be slight variations from batch to batch, just as nature makes no two apples alike! Enjoy our authentic hand bottled American Farmhouse "Scrumpy" Cider with family, friends & food.

Bottle from Lighthouse, enjoyed in the beer garden. Very nice, fruity cider, not too swet, and not too dry. Not quite as fruity as their Solstice cider.

650mL bottle, pours a clear pale golden with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out medium apple sweetness, with a little farmhouse funk, and some light tannins. Flavour is quite sweet for a scrumpy, with very little farmhouse character, with medium sweet apples. Drinks easy like juice. Not very scrumpy-like to me, but it’s very nice for what it is.

Cloudy, light tan. No head, of course. Apple juice aroma with just light tannins. Very sweet, though, on the palate. The tannins aren’t enough to cover the overt sweet nature of this. The apple character is fresh, but it’s too much like juice for me, and not enough like a nice, alcoholic scrumpy.

660ml bottle - shared by Elvira - thanks!
Lovely sweet fruity apple aroma, really juicy. Rich orange for a cider, cloudy. Mega sweet palate, actually sugary. But tons of apple too. Pleasantly carbonated, but that can’t save the palate from being stickily sweet. Only a tonne of ice can fix that problem, alas. Pleasant, once you’re past the sugar rush. So sweet it reminds me of non-rateable nordic macro alko-pop ciders. However, even those have remembered to include some sharpness to the mix. In fact there’s no evidence of yeast being involved with this alcoholic apple juice at all. Another notch in the "Americans haven’t got a fucking clue how to make [style X]" post for X=scrumpy. Nice cider, with ice cubes for drinkability, but please don’t pretend it’s something which it isn’t.

Hazy golden orange pour. Nose has an interesting spice to it...cinnamon? Kind of apple pie-like. Sweet fruit, yeast, apple, and a light tartness and acidity. The flavor has a nice sweet apple character, some spice, yeast, and mild acidity on the finish. Actually a little bit dry on the back end.
