Clear, medium-light amber, light head cover, level curtain of lace. Taste is sweet caramel malt that adds delicate bittering at the end of the palate, lingering to a nice finish. Not a lot of taste or originality, but quite drinkable.

I have fond memories of this amber brew from 20 years ago, and enjoyed one recently. I had forgoten how much of an iron tase it has, but will always love this one, and consider it to be a clasic by which to compare other English ambers

Draft @ Heros in Annapolis. Has been a while since Ive had this one, but I remember it tasted a lot like a watered down cider beer. Drinks like Yuengling, but with more of an apple flavor. Nothing special.

12oz bottle. Pours a light amber color with a decent fizzy off white head that fades fast. Biscuity malt aromas with some light fruitiness as well as a slight hops. Smooth biscuity malt dominates the flavor with the hops hanging in the background until the bitter and fruity finish.

355 ml bottle from Sandys, SLO. Nose is nutty caramel with some light diacetyl. Clear amber with a medium beige head. Flavor is very lightly bitter with the caramel and diacetyl.

Imminently drinkable. Does not lunge into the pitfalls of similar beers-not too sweet, pleasing bitter, great aroma. I discovered this beer in the Young Avenue Deli in Memphis, TN. The deal was (if I remember correctly-this was several years ago) to drink ten draft pints (presumably, the intention was not all in a single trip), get a free T-shirt. I was planning to sample a variety of imports that night. I wont say if I got the souvenier, but John Courage played a singlehanded role in the effort that evening. After the first, I lost all interest in sampling others.

Location: Originally discovered this one a few years back at the Total Wine in Richmond, VA. 12 oz bottle

Overall Impression: One of my favorite/go-to beers. Wonderfully drinkable smooth, amber beer. It really just works, and holds additional value for me, as one of my first favorite beers, hence the probably bloated rating, especially when compared to most others.

Called "John Courage Amber" - Norwegian Jewel cruise (in Maltings bar) - pours indeed amber, nearly still fine carbonation honeyed malts and fruit notes. Good suggestion of bitter hops slakes the thirst.
