tap served in snifter: an unusual barley wine. Arouma is different, like sweet, fresh hay right after it’s been taken off the field. Nice caramel and toffee malts and peaches and some nice boozey bitterness going on. Hazy dark red/brown thing white head. Some funky grassy aroumas going on, but not unpleasant. Finishes sweet with some astringency, and nicely balanced. Lots of flavor going on. LilBeerDoctor (3930) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 1, 2009
On tap at JH. Pours a cloudy brown with no real head. Aroma of sweet fruits, sweet malt, molasses, honey, and booze as it warms. Flavor of some bitter hops, but it doesn’t really have much flavor and as the beer warms the flavor becomes hot and an alcoholic mess. A waste, especially considering it’s served in a snifter and the Happy Hour special doesn’t apply to it. Pass on this disaster...

Snifter @ brewpub. This is the rating for batch 2. I remember batch 1 being better and having more evident hoppiness.. It pours so damn thick, quicksand-like, with a dark copper color. Again its really freaking thick looking. Has a small had that turns into a lacing that just wont go away. Aroma is pretty unoffensive; lightly thick caramel with un-descriptive, muted hop highlights. Its like the maltiness is flavorless but so thick that it absorbs the hop aromas and all we get are cries from the quicksand. Some faint alco-fruit mixed with hops. in the form of tangerines, coming through there as well. Taste is similar, there are strong hops but they are buried under a thick maltiness that doesn’t give off any flavor. The mouthfeel is very thick, almost like syrup, thickest I have had in a while, which I actually like. Leaves a short aftertaste with a low bitterness. the score is bumped up by appearance and mouthfeel but its not that impressive. I thick there is a good beer here getting muddied up a bit. goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - FEB 21, 2008
