UPDATED: JAN 13, 2007 Sampled on draft at the Monroeville PA location this beer poured a black color with a large creamy dark brown head. The aroma was roasty molts with a moderate chocolate element. The flavor is roasty and tangy malts, sweet chocolate and light floral hops. The mouthfeel is thick and smooth. The alcohol is well hidden. A very drinkable brew. TAP NY. I believe this is the correct one. Dark brown, tan head. Roasty fruity hoppy aroma. Big malt, with a hoppy and very roasty flavor. This is a pretty well done Russian. DYCSoccer17 (3703) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 22, 2004
Cask Version. Rich cocoa aroma with a mild roastiness. The aroma is pleasant, but not overly complex. Completely opaque black color with a yellowish-tan head that is nice and bubbly and soft. Roasty coffee to start turning slightly alcoholic in the middle. Finishes with a sweet kick and then some more roastiness. A tad thin. Reminds me of a mellower BBCS...which I prefer...
