On tap at JH’s in Manchester CT. A wonderful light-bodied hoppy golden lager. Clean and refreshing. This one has a tad more hops than the classic German type, but is still quite drinkable an refreshing. Well made version of a very under-appreciated style. Draft in Pittsburgh, PA. Clear dark straw. Large frothy white head. Modest carbonation. Healthy toasted bread crust malts and floral hop balance. Gentle malt sweetness. Crisp and clean finish. Easy drinking. A good stab at a sometimes boring style. vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 5, 2003
Framingham, MA - Has a golden color and malted smell. Taste is of the pilsner malt and finished with a slight crisp bitterness. Overall I enjoyed this beer due to the fact that I like pilsners. jcwattsrugger (12517) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - NOV 29, 2009

Assume this is what is called "Harvard Square Helles" in the Harvard Square location.
Dull golden, with quickly receding head. Grassy aroma with sweet, malty flavor. Light carbonation, medium body.

Draft in Manchester, CT. The beer’s name was "Cold as Helles", but I will place it here. Crisp, slightly sweet and grassy nose. Transparent yellow/orange golden color with dissipating yellowish head. Grassy, slightly hoppy middle. Creamy and grainy to finish. A fair representation of the style. I detect sort of a milky flavor/sensation. The more I drink, the more this tastes like a cheap macro. Tap in Framingham. Clear golden orange color, minimal head. Aroma of wet hay and pale malts, assorted grains. Mild flavor overall, has a pleasant malt finish. Not bad, but just average altogether. MrRomero (1976) - Nolanville, USA - MAR 3, 2005
Tap at Framingham location: Poured golden yellow with a medium white head. Mild aroma of vinegar and corn with a little fruit. More corn in the palate. Okay. JFGrind (2064) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 10, 2003
Springfield, PA - The Saaz hops is what makes this beer. Gives it a crisp aftertaste. DocLock (10970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 14, 2005
I am very saddened to see how much John Harvard’s has fallen off in their beer in the last 6 months or so. I speak with only knowledge of the Wayne, PA location, but their beers aren’t as good as they used to be. The food is still great, but I usually go to Iron Hill or GLI or Sly Fox of Victory these days.
