Counter-pressure filled growler from Decicco’s Brewster. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a very small head of white bubbles. Aroma is really pleasant: lemon zest, white wine, oak barrel, orange, peach, musty cork, earthy hops, basil, light tartness. Taste is sour saison with crackery pilsner malt and white grape alongside grapefruit juice, lemon peel, and an herbal and pithy finish with surprising hop bitterness and oaky tannins. Draft. Poured clear golden color with an average fizzy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy basil spice and wood aroma. Medium to abundant body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spice sour flavor with a medium spice sour finish of moderated duration. Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a slightly hazy yellow color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have Thai basil, oak, Jolly Pumpkin funk, some tart fruit character, light spice, mildly bready and very easy to drink. Lasting oaky JP funk. On tap at Dutch’s. Almost entirely clear golden color. Thin off white head, leaves a few dots of lace. Really nice kind of oaky sour thai basil nose and flavor. I really enjoy herbal flavors like basil, and the perfect amount of it is in this beer.. It’s balanced, enough to be noticed, but not so much as to dominate. Light bready malt base, and nice oaky sour notes, little lemon citrus, it all plays very well together. Light spiciness at the end. Good moderate sour taste, light bit of sweetness, light bitterness, and a more dry finish. Light to medium body. Smooth, light carbonation. Very bright and refreshing. One of the most enjoyable, tasty, and easy-drinking JP beers I’ve ever had. I could drink this all day.

shimmering gold with a dense white head, lasting but little lace. Nose shows basil, lightest brett hay and sulfur with more prominent citrus and dough. Flavor is more house than nose, basic by comparison to some bears with hay and grass up front, lemon and orange rind mid tempered by grass before a faintly crusty finish, crisp with esters accented by fine bubbled, zesty carbonation. One of their most uneventful beers I can remember, closest to but way simpler than Bam. On draft. A ton of tangy spice and a bit of sweetness which I probably wouldn’t have identified as basil but that knowledge explains a lot. Straw color sticky white head that clings to the glass. Aroma: The nose is spice, lots of basil, some mint, grass, and plenty of Belgian yeast notes
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color with a small head and light lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, basil/mint with Belgian yeast, spice, and a little funk
Palate: The body is medium, it drinks nicely, with a clean, mild dry finish to it
Overall, I really enjoyed this. Much more of a Saison than a sour in my opinion. I get some funky flavors, but not a lot of tart. The basil works nicely.
Had a pint on tap at the pub in Ann Arbor. Really delicious, not a lot of heat or sourness, but a refreshing and tasty brew.
