Once upon a time, I tried a saison...and I fell in love. People ask me all the time...what’s your favorite style? I truly cannot choose one. Every one has its style, its fragrances, its own character. This is a brew I am not familiar with; haven’t seen any reviews, and have seen the label only a handful of times. Tonight, I have an opportunity to taste it myself. No bias here...
There is little aroma when I open the beer, only a hint of farm and some tartness in the scent; there is only enough to allow some wonder at the lack of it. The rosy, honey-hued beer cascades into the glass and a pillow of off-white foam, tinged with pink, rises almost as quickly as the liquid. The aroma is more centered now, delicately bitter, tart, with a hint of flora when agitated.
I tip the glass to my mouth and find that bitterness in the forward, the brew flowing over my tongue and flooding my senses with the pith of hibiscus and rose hips. The yeast is apparent now, adding a lightweight funk to the flavor. The dry finish leaves your mouth begging for more, if for no other reason than to complete the circle. The beauty of this...the fruits, the yeast, the medium body and the light carbonation; it all flows so well together, beginning with a tartness that lightly assaults my mouth, and finishing with the need for another sip.
Definitely a brew I would suggest to anyone who enjoys a saison. Definitely a brew you should keep sipping until the aroma culminates to the flavor. Believe me; even if you are unimpressed at the start, when the bottle is gone, you will hate the fact that it’s over. travita (4992) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 4, 2016
