A - Dark black with a bit of ruby with a big finger of khaki-tan head. Fades slowly.
S - Grainy malts, smoke, vanilla, oak, roasted coffee, chocolate, spicy peppers, light sour dark fruits.
T - Grainy malts, roasted coffee, chocolate smoke, oak, vanilla, spicy peppers with some heat, mild sour cherries and other dark fruit, Belgian yeast.
M - Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Smooth with a roasted, smoky, and spicy.
D - Very interesting and complex, but well balanced.
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy white head that was lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee and spice aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy coffee sweet flavor with a medium to heavy spice sweet finish of moderate to long duration. 750 ml bottle shared with Tmoney99 and the Dutch’s crew. Pours a dark caramel brown color with a large fluffy beige head. Thick tan head; can’t tell the color as in a red glass. Sour, smokey, and spicy, both on the aroma and flavor. This is excellent. Palate is quite astringent.

2/1/15. 750mL bottle from Happy’s, Cedar Falls. Murky brown pour with a nice khaki head and good lacing. Sour aroma, caramel, Brett, a mild chocolate sense. Weird, rich flavor. Some spiced accents, lingers a little hot, also spice from the yeast, mixes with chocolate, biscuits, a slight chalkiness, coffee, some tartness... there is a lot going on, but I’m not 100% convinced it works. Bottle courtesy Patrick. Batch 1068/1069 Bottled 04-25-2012. Pours a translucent reddish brown, little bit of off-white head. Aroma cherries, plums, oak. Body lively and arch, finish is amazing, lots of cocoa, chocolate, cherries, well balanced and complex. Lingering spice and smoke character. Top notch, really. Bottle 4/12 dating. The pour is a darker brown with a full thick head. The aroma is some sour funk and very light coffee. The taste is a cluster F. A bunch of bland flavors. A can't even describe the flavor anything more than dirty dishwater.

Bottle: Thanks, Kevin. Swampy & mucky, opaque brown trudge water. Slow gusher. Enormous beige head piles up & lasts for years. Annoyingly long actually. Chunky lace all over the glass; the only savior for this poopy looking brew. Nose is a mix of dusty, roasted, old coffee beans & slightly tart fruit with undertones of citrus peel, oak, & mild tannins. Hints of leafy spice & some seemingly yeast heavy esters in the periphery. Strange, different, but not bad. Despite the tartness presence in the aroma, there is almost none in the flavor. Flavor is mostly murky, oily coffee beans with a moderately heavy roast. Hops are more vibrant with semi-floral undertones, along with a hint of cola, tannin, & musty oak. Allowing this to warm brings out even more complexity; toasty yeast, earthy esters, dirt, mild smoke, sweet lemon & apple, & vague spiciness. I guess that MAYBE there’s a SLIGHT hint of tartness way in the back. But this is far from the "sour" saison that it’s labeled. Either way, a super unique brew. Not as dry as many JP offerings, but still in the sub 1.005 FG range. Different, pretty good.
