COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
March 15, 2012 a tornado tore through Dexter, missing the brewery, but not all of our neighbors. What could we do to help? Hmmm. We do know how to make beer. So make a beer is what we did. This beer. Teaming up with co-conspirators Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company, Scheras and the Abu Nawas Beverage Company to create a collaborative beer like noneother.

A dark and smoky sour Saison full of rich aromatic coffee and the spicy heat of a secret Algerian spice blend. Proceeds go to the Dexter Relief Fund.

Aroma of typical Jolly Pumpkin wheatie funk and coffee. Pours black with a big frothy head. Tastes like somebody spiked a great Jolly Pumpkin with coffee. Too weird.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy white head that was lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee and spice aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy coffee sweet flavor with a medium to heavy spice sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded.

750 ml bottle shared with Tmoney99 and the Dutchs crew. Pours a dark caramel brown color with a large fluffy beige head. The aroma and flavor have mildly acidic coffee, fruity peppers, spices, the typical Jolly Pumpkin funk, oak, some fruity notes come through, interesting for a 5 year old beer.

Bottle was 4 years old but still had a good flavor. I like jolly pumpkin in general but they do all taste the same.

Has a lot of chilli (?) aroma. Medium amount of lacy head. Interesting sour twist at the end. Medium body, and rather lively. Its an odd, odd saison, but not bad. Rather a ride for the mouth...

Thick tan head; cant tell the color as in a red glass. Sour, smokey, and spicy, both on the aroma and flavor. This is excellent. Palate is quite astringent.

2/1/15. 750mL bottle from Happys, Cedar Falls. Murky brown pour with a nice khaki head and good lacing. Sour aroma, caramel, Brett, a mild chocolate sense. Weird, rich flavor. Some spiced accents, lingers a little hot, also spice from the yeast, mixes with chocolate, biscuits, a slight chalkiness, coffee, some tartness... there is a lot going on, but Im not 100% convinced it works. Strange stuff, but Im sorta digging it.

Bottle courtesy Patrick. Batch 1068/1069 Bottled 04-25-2012. Pours a translucent reddish brown, little bit of off-white head. Aroma cherries, plums, oak. Body lively and arch, finish is amazing, lots of cocoa, chocolate, cherries, well balanced and complex. Lingering spice and smoke character. Top notch, really.

Bottle 4/12 dating. The pour is a darker brown with a full thick head. The aroma is some sour funk and very light coffee. The taste is a cluster F. A bunch of bland flavors. A can't even describe the flavor anything more than dirty dishwater. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: Thanks, Kevin. Swampy & mucky, opaque brown trudge water. Slow gusher. Enormous beige head piles up & lasts for years. Annoyingly long actually. Chunky lace all over the glass; the only savior for this poopy looking brew. Nose is a mix of dusty, roasted, old coffee beans & slightly tart fruit with undertones of citrus peel, oak, & mild tannins. Hints of leafy spice & some seemingly yeast heavy esters in the periphery. Strange, different, but not bad. Despite the tartness presence in the aroma, there is almost none in the flavor. Flavor is mostly murky, oily coffee beans with a moderately heavy roast. Hops are more vibrant with semi-floral undertones, along with a hint of cola, tannin, & musty oak. Allowing this to warm brings out even more complexity; toasty yeast, earthy esters, dirt, mild smoke, sweet lemon & apple, & vague spiciness. I guess that MAYBE theres a SLIGHT hint of tartness way in the back. But this is far from the "sour" saison that its labeled. Either way, a super unique brew. Not as dry as many JP offerings, but still in the sub 1.005 FG range. Different, pretty good.
