COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

Sour tangerines, grapes, musty oak, spicy clove, and coriander make up the complex aroma of La Roja. Orangeish brown in color, with a persistent white ring and very fine bubbles across the top of the beer. Mellow flavors of sour grape skins, some spice, vanilla and as it warms sour cherries make up the flavor. Dry, thin, high carbonation, and somewhat astringent. An excellent brew from my new favorite American brewery.

The aroma is malt, caramel, clove and a little earthy yeast. Pours a brown/amber with a creamy light brown head mostly lasting. The taste is sour-medium. The body is medium, the texture creamy and the carbonation fizzy, the finish astringent. Overall the buzz outweighs the taste.

There are strange and wonderful things going on in La Roja. It pours dirty red with not-white suds. The aromas are funky, fruity, and acidic. The flavor profile is an odd balance of sweet/sour/fermented. Malty caramel, booze-soaked wood, tangy cherry, sweet/tart citrus, balsamic and white vinegar, and funky earth. Its all so unusual, all so drinkable. Rot can be fun if you let the right brewer show you how.

Bottle. A- Oak, cherries, subtle sourness, overripe stone fruit A- Orange brown color, hazy liquid, beige head. T- Oak, caramel, cherries, slightly sour. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, full finish. O- Decent. Reminded me much more of a barley wine than a sour. Aroma was good. Something in the taste that I cant quite place that hurt it a bit for me.
