tart sour nose with hints of brown caramel malts, thin head, deep mirky brown color, palate is quite watery which must be from the excessive dryness of this ale, flavor is acidic and tart but far from overwhelming, significant lingering bitterness, hints at fruit but far from complicated in the ester department, some dark malt flavor sticks around at the finish, very mild brett flavors... Far less complex and bretty than most other JP ales, but more sour than most of the others Ive had

Keg at Brewdog as Jolly Pumpkin La Roja, 7.2%. Hazy brick browny orange, translucent, almost opaque, foamy beige head is minimal. Aroma is vibrant toffee apple, some vanilla, some acetic notes and also fudge. Pretty sweet and intense on the nose. Body is light and frothy with tingly carbonation. Taste has more toffee and malt vinegar, light vanilla, dates, lightly acidic in the finish. Pretty good. Maybe doesnt have the complexity of the best in class but its also not overly acidic like some attempts. Improved over time.

Like this. The crushing sourness of many JP beers is thankfully well balanced in this beer by a nice soft sweetness, some yeasty funk, a hint of port and cheese (no, really). Looks like it tastes, soft and fruity. Nice.

Bottle from Beer Store. Smells of malt, oak, sour fruits. Flavor is sour then earthy finishing fruity and malty ending more sour. Nice balance and ABV is hidden nicely.

Cloudy amber color. Smells oaky with various spice and citrus undertones. Taste the wood and sour- really fresh. The finish is tart. Really nice sour!

Aroma is good sour funk on the nose but it comes across as a bit too clean. Has a nice big head and penny copper body. Again, seems a little it too refined for a wild ale. Flavour is good sourness, but too thin, too simple. Kind of weak on the mouth. this is like the wild ale that went to prep school and has neatly combed hair, wears a schoolboys outfit, and doesnt cut loose. WIld ales should be mess to a certain extent and this just dont got that full field funk feeling.
