4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with blankboy, tupalev & HogTownHarry - HogTownHarry’s bottle. Nice pale-ale-like appearance - amber-bronze colour with a good sized white head. Aroma - wow! It’s a funkified pale ale, really nice. Flavour starts a bit mellow, but develops nicely, with rounded fruit and herbal notes, and some earthy hops in the finish. Another great weird-ass beer from JP.
On tap at Artisan (Rome). A bit hazy orange color with off-white head. Aroma has sweet candied fruits like apricots and tangerines with a light yeast funk. Taste starts with sweet and tart apricot, peach, tangerine but on the finish it gets quite bitter with herbal hop notes. Light to medium body and carbonation. A really well made beer with a good combination of tart, sweet and bitter flavors, all integrated gracefully. s_hartshorne (2847) - wakefield, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - FEB 10, 2018
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2018 Glad I got this bottle at a heavily reduced price from tall boys beer market. Major gusher 750 mm bottle left me with a decent half of a pint. Orange colour. Funky yeasty fruit aroma. Taste sour yeasty fruits lots of oxidation. Not the best beer probs due to the condition. ccex (1400) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 22, 2017
UPDATED: OCT 22, 2017 Pours a hazy orange/amber color with small white head and spots of lacing. Aroma is has brett, peach, lemon, apricot and coriander, Taste is medium sour with hops coming out in the finish. Body is light to medium with a silky mouthfeel. UPDATED: AUG 9, 2017 Light amber colour and white head. Fruity and spicy aroma. Farmhouse yeast, sour and hoppy. Nice beer Hopper8 (282) - Holland, Michigan, USA - MAY 13, 2017
I liked this beer and it’s really interesting. The spicy/sourness of the Grand Cru tradition compliment the hops in a very interesting and bold way. I think I prefer the oak aged sour in other iterations more and it is likely costing my rating of the beer. That being said for a hoppier pale ale, the sourness and spice of the beer go along to really make this a nice sipper. Jolly Pumpkin continues to be one of my favorite breweries.
