Artisan Golden Ale. Ale aged in oak barrels. Barrel aged & bottle conditioned. Aged in large oak casks and refermented in the bottle. Oro de Calabaza is brewed in the Franco-Belgian tradition of special golden ales. Spicy and peppery with a gentle hop bouquet and the beguiling influence of wild yeast. UPDATED: JAN 30, 2013 Bright golden color, head recedes rather quickly, though for a sour ale of this ABV, I suppose its to be expected. Just gorgeous. Smell is exciting. Tart, fruity, Lemony, and a bit funky. Got Damn. Upfront with lemon and orange. Nectarine and Peach shove in mid-palate to completely take over. Still with the mean, sexy, well-balanced tartness and bitterness. This is a gorgeously complex beer. Definitely in my top five. Get it if you can, when you can.

Pale clear yellow with a pale head. Aroma is wild flowers, hint of white wine. Light bodied, herbal and floral on the palate, dry finish. Taste is wild flowers, chamomile, dandelions.

Bottled 08-21-15, maybe it was the age but this sprayed quite a bit, released a lot of fruity scents. Smell has funky fruitiness and rich spicy grains, wood is subtle. Slight woodiness balances well with the funk, pepper, slight sweetness. Round medium body with lots of fine carbonation. Complex and delicately balanced but surprisingly quaffable.

Citrus aroma, pours hazy golden, mild carbonation. Yeasty coriander notes with a pleasant, well balanced finish. Dangerously easy to drink.

Sample at the Ann Arbor brewpub. Slightly hazy straw color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily to a film. Short strings of lace. Spice, tart fruit, yeast and malt aromas. Medium body with flavors of funky fruit, oak, coriander, yeast and malt. The finish is funky citrus and peppery yeast. Pretty good all around.

(Emb. 03/09/16 Blend 3) (1943-190816)

Brett, sour citrus fruits, lemon and lime, grapefruit, spices and lightly peppery. Hazy gold, massive, creamy, white head. Medium sour. Sour citrus fruits, grapefruit, lime, brett, oak barrels, soft carbonation, sour and dry finish. Quite a sour BSA. Bottle from Discount Liquor, Milwaukee.

Pours hazy yellow with very thin white head. Nose is tart and spicy. Huge tart and sour taste. Aromas are spices (pepper), herbal hops, alcohol, farmhouse yeast. Lively carbonation, light body. Long sour and peppery finish. Weird balance between sourness and bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Heavyweight 375 ml bottle served in a Belgian snifter. This "Gold of Pumpkin" ale has an obvious wild yeast component which I find interesting and acceptable in the flavor, but overbearing and unappealing in the aroma. Moderate oak barrel influence. Mildly bitter and tart. Excellent, lively mouthfeel.
