Draft sample at MBGF Summer08. Poured hazy orange amber with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy tart fruit, sour citrus, earthy and woody aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium to heavy sour flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where met with a better version of this JP brew. auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - AUG 3, 2008
UPDATED: APR 28, 2009 750mL Bottle. Interesting fruit and funk nose. Very unique blend of citrus and wildness fruit. Coconut juice, sweet almonds, and passionfruit. Very tropical, fresh and amazing. Heavily clouded orange-amber, with a golden fringe and a white rim. Flavor develops strongly. Start mild and unassuming in cobweb wildness, but then explodes into a crazy bamboo spice and subtropical fruit flesh. Oak doesn’t annoy me as much as it often does. Alcohol is a little prickly, doesn’t feel warm, but does blow into the nostrils. Tart and puckery. Strongest citrus presentation of all the JPs I can think of. Calabaza showing through? Nice clean funk. Dry. Palate is great. Lots of unique texture, not much sweetness and an acidity that is good for drinking. Long pickled citrus rind finish. Great. One of the best, all around. Thanks Sean! ogglethorp (919) - Ohio, USA - JUL 31, 2008
On tap for MBG O8. Pours a hazy coppery color with a thin beige colored head. Aroma is oak, light cherry, floral, funk. Flavor is oak, light tart cherries, hint of bourbon, floral. Palate is medium bodied, light carbonation, finished tart and refreshing. Very good! punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - JUL 30, 2008
On tap at the MBG ’08 Summerfest. Orange, brown, gold pour. Very dry with lots of apple notes, some herbs, and wheat. Strong sour character. Medium body. sleestak (226) - Williamston, Michigan, USA - JUL 29, 2008
UPDATED: JUL 10, 2009 MBG Fest ’08. Poured a hazy amber with a frothy white head. Aroma was strongly acetic with wood and yeast notes. Flavor was a rollercoaster - it starts momentarily smooth, but quickly the sour fruit taste completely overwhelms the taste buds before the dry finish kicks in. Very refreshing mouthfeel full of enjoyable micro-carbonation. Sad to think I’ll likely never try this beer again given the limited supply being made available at the end of this week (8/1/08) because it really is a remarkable beverage.

2008 MiBGF: Hazy golden hue with a small lasting head. The aroma has notes of funky brett, oak, sour grapes and cherry, dusty yeast and floral esters. The taste has a nice sour punch, acidic and oaky. There is an overlying yeast driven note about this and some herbal tones about the finish. The mouth feel is refreshing and soft. A nice brew and better than the La Roja Kriek I had before it. masonjer (609) - Holt, Michigan, USA - JUL 28, 2008
On tap at the MBG summer fest 08’. This was probably the one I was most excited about. Had two samples of this. I am definitely going to have to taste this again though. But here is my preliminary rating. Poured an orange/light brown. Aroma was great, nice all encompassing sour and wood. Taste has the same qualities, a sour that seems to fill the mouth and slowly fade away after the swallow. Nice and dry, mature and rounded. More tart than most JP beers, and one of my favorites. This was one of my standouts at the fest, and my 400th rating. Thanks Ron and Jolly Pumpkin for all you do!
