Had twice at the Winter Michigan Beer Festival. Thank you thank you thank you to JP for bringing that great keg. I think i had some of the last of it towards the end of the day. (Sorry) Really dark in color with some funk stained wood all throughout the taste. A little worried that there might be to much oak aging, but it comes together really nice and complements the sourness of it all. Detectable alcohol is nowhere near 8%. Very nice. Poured a clear dark brown color with a minimal frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with virtually no lacing. Moderate to heavy tart citrus, good funk and wood aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sour flavor with a medium to heavy sweet&sour finish of moderate to long duration.
This is a standout beer for style.
Shared by Rciesla. Thanks Broski. Looks like a schwartzbeer. Smells a little like a porter maybe? Tough to put my finger on the aroma. Very heavy on the lactic and acetic acids. Comes together pretty well. Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - FEB 20, 2009

Bottle: The aroma is definitely sour with some oak, roast, chocolate, and alcohol. It pours a dark brown with a small beige head that quickly fades to a ring. The flavor starts moderately sour/tart and finishes with some faint roastiness and oak. It’s medium bodies with minimal carbonation.
Bottle shared by ucusty in the sexual chocolate release line saturday morning. This was some tasty, sour, funky, oaky, fruity, tart yumminess. Very acidic and woody mouthfeel, yet highly drinkable. Thanks Dave!

Bottle (12oz) shared by WeeHeavySD at his place for J&J’s Friday the 13th Tasting. Thanks Jon! Dark mahogany color with a nearly black center, with some light fizz. Aroma is a lovely blend of funky and tart fruitcake with musty oak wood. Complex flavor of sour fruits, blackcurrant, cherry and more oak barrel. Dry, puckering finish that leaves a wonderful taste lingering. Overall an awesome beer, thanks again Jon for breaking this one out! StFun (567) - Indiana, USA - FEB 18, 2009
The third big winner from the Footsex trip. Very surprised with this one. Pours a dark red, almost like fresh blood. Aroma is dark fruit and candy, with just a touch of tart and wood, and a subtle note of musk. Flavor is fantastic, dark fruits, candy, toffee, cider, and wood, with a great sourness on top of it all. Finishes dry, if only slightly sticky. A real winner, can’t wait to have it again. Lagunitasfan (1323) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 17, 2009
Enjoyed at J&J’s Fri. the 13th. Dark brown with a tiny ring around the glass. The nose was a sharp, warming sour. Flavor is a deep and heavy sourness. Super tart. Pulled the saliva from my mouth and left it dry and puckered. Long lingering yummy aftertaste. bu11zeye (13239) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - FEB 16, 2009
(12oz. bottle, Batch 4) Pours a dark brown body with a spare beige head. Aroma of black cherry, barnyard, raisins, vanilla, and vinous. Flavor of tart citrus, cherry, vinous, light roasted malt, and florals with a dry finish. Excellent! BMan1113VR (7930) - Los Angeles, California, USA - FEB 15, 2009
12 oz bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a dark brown body and no head at all. Bourbon, and vinous notes dominate with dark cherry, chocolate, oak, toffee and sour yeast (like Jolly Pumpkin yeast to the extreme, but cleaner...More like Drie Fonetinen yeast), vanilla sweetness and florals. Taste is sour with chocolate, caramel, sour berries, tons of wood, a bit of smoke and florals. Thickish mouthfeel, a bit syrupy with light carbonation. Great JP beer!
