Pours very dark brown, bordering on black. No real head to speak of. When pouring, there is some brownish bubbles that settles near the edges of my glass as a thin film. Lovely, tart, oaky aroma, some roasted malts, light medicinic, vanilla, plums and a hint of tobacco. Medium, prickly carbonation, good dry and kinda light mouthfeel. Flavour is elegantly tart, plums, raisins, chocolate, vanilla, light vinious. There is plenty of elegance and lots of flavours. Wood, roasted malts, some black currants and a good, warming viniousness. Very well blended to maintain and obtain this fine balance.
Sampled at the DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010. Pours an opaque, watery black with half a ring of white head. Nose is muddled, light oak, light toast, chocolate. Flavor is tart, a little vinegary, a little black malt, sweet, chocolate. Finish is full bodied and tart. This was better than the P1, but I don’t really get these beers. Bottle at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010, courtesy of ryan. Dark brown, scant head and lacing. Aroma of chocolate and caramel. Taste is syrupy, medium body, salt, vinegar, sour chocolate. Interesting. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 7, 2010
12oz courtesy of ryan. Pours a deep, opaque brown with no head. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, oak, dark fruits, lactic sourness, stout-like character. Taste is lemony tart with wet oak, caramel, molasses, leather. A bit chalky and thin on the palate. Pretty good. brainlair (236) - Maryland, USA - JUN 6, 2010
Pours a deep, thick, opaque brown. Aroma is quite sour, a touch of acidity that pleasantly nibbles at the nose, as well as a ton of fresh cherries. Flavor is pretty sour, with a bit of acidity. Lots oak and orange peel flavor without really any of the bitterness. Finish has citrus peel and a mild, pleasant acidic bite.

Dark brown color with an off-white head.
The smell is very acidic and somewhat lactic with funky notes of vinegar, malts, white deadnettles and herbs. Hints of tart merries and wet oak/barrel.
The flavor is actually quite malty with notes of caramel and sweet prunes. Then comes the tartness with lactic notes, tart cherries, vinegar and wood. Lovely mildly funky barrel notes and some lemony sourness. The finish is a bit abrupt, but nicely dry as the beer ends on a herbal note.
It has a rather full body and a very smooth texture developing into a dry finish.
A beer with a very complex character and a rather unique profile. Good stuff. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 26, 2010
12 oz bottle shared by sleestak. Pours a dark dark brown, near opaque, reddish edges that lace well. Aromas throw copious sour cherries, strawberry, mellow caramel, sour bretty funk, lactic acid, vanilla tannins. Nice. A balanced nice sourness, mellow sweetness, very fruity as it goes down, throwing multiple red berries, citrus, oaky wood and vanilla tannins. Really coats the palate firmly, leaving a great lingering sourness, lively fruit, wet wood. Very nice. Some light vinegar, drier brett towards the back sticks with the lactic acid, wet wood, lingering sour darker fruits of cherry, plum, strawberry provides a faint sweeter edge. Must give a better rate this summer. Loved it, one of the highlights of DLD for me. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 26, 2010
Thanks to Jeff for sharing at DLD! Poured medium coppery-tan with a dusting of off-white head. The aroma picked up sour oak and lemony notes over touches of caramel and molasses sweetness.. sour overall and enjoyable. The flavor was skewed slightly toward the sour side as well, with lemon and earthy notes leading.. caramel and nutty notes supported well.. lengthy oak and lemon sourness on the finish. Sour and engaging on the palate, with well-balanced components.. warm, soothing malts met the best characteristics of the barrel and played well. Bottle shared by fonefan on 8/28/09: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Nice aroma of semi-sweet dark caramel, black cherries and vinous toasted oak. Starts with good fullness and lightly toasty sweet caramel malt with lots of complex dark cherries and tartness balancing out before a slightly drier mildly warming finish. A very nice sour ale.
