COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour, barrel-aged version of the beer by the same name. Brewed in collaboration with Maui brewing.

Yes, Michigan and Hawaii are connected. It should be obvious to you now, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states, Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries and liliko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but no our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! -Ron

Working with Ron is something I’ve always want to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin beer. Years later, it’s a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer! -John

On tap at GTMW - Pours hazy amber with a thin white head. Nose has odd herbal notes, grapefruit, and a touch of sour. Taste is smooth soured malt, a touch of tartness, herbal citrus rind. Don’t really get the cherries on this one. Smooth and medium-bodied.

Bottle. Split with Seanny boy. Pours glowing rosy chestnut with a thin, half finger off-white, tightly bubbled head. Aroma of cherries, lemon, rose petals, Brett, leather, and some fruity/floral notes. Flavors of lemon, dry Brett, leather, and funk. Palate is fluffy and tart. Finishes dry and zesty. Excellent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle that I took to the Campground Brewdown. Pours a hazed amber with ruby highlights and a thin white head. Sweet passion fruit, musk, and that classic Jolly Pumpkin funk. Medium bodied, light funkiness. Sweet and musky, sweet fruit, passion fruit juice. Sweet and musky, light tartness, long tart juicy fruit and sweet musk into the finish. Lovely.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy rusty orange color with a small white head. Caramel, apple, lemon in the nose. Light/medium mouthfeel. Lemon and apple sour notes up front. Trails off in the end for me. Slight bitterness lingers as well as some oak notes. Overall, it’s ok.

Served on tap in at Jolly Pumpkin in Ann Arbor. Sobrehumano pours slightly darker than the usual pale ale. It has a golden caramel color, but there is also an amber tint in the center of the glass. A moderate white froth coats the top of the beer in the pitcher and remains on top in the glass for a few minutes as well before fading to a ring around the edge. The aroma is fairly tart and acetic, with some berries and citrus fruit. There is a woody oak presence behind it as well. There is just a quick fruit sweetness to the start of the flavor before it turns totally sour. Tart lemon and a bit of vinegar set the palate to how sour Sobrehumano is, allowing cherries, currants, green apples, and white grapes to dance on the tongue and add further depth. Tannic woody notes come through and add a slight astringency to the finish. A moderate level of both lemony sour and cherry acetic acidity exists in this beer. The tartness causes gentle salivation and alerts the senses to the flavor sensations on the tongue. At the beginning of the sip the body seems to be in the middle of the spectrum, with the oak and crisp carbonation lightening the feel by the end. This is yet another very drinkable sour from Jolly Pumpkin. It does not quite match up to Biere de Mars for me, but I would relax over a few glasses of this beer.
