Sour, barrel-aged version of the beer by the same name. Brewed in collaboration with Maui brewing.

Yes, Michigan and Hawaii are connected. It should be obvious to you now, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states, Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries and liliko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but no our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! -Ron

Working with Ron is something I’ve always want to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin beer. Years later, it’s a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer! -John

Crushed with TheRon and Hey-Zeus. 750 mL bottle pours a hazy, opaque pink/ruby with a fizzy head. Carbonation tickles the tongue. Acidic aroma adds to the tart cherries and passion fruit. Flavor has plenty of funk complementing the fruits. As a session beer I prefer the original, but for a serious beer drinking experience, I go with this one. Both are fantastic in their own right. Great collaboration. Cheers!

Tart fruity notes, somewhat indistinct but acidic and juicy, overall a vague tropical impression (which seems to be what the collaboration was going for). Mellow feel, aftertaste of light dry woodiness, typical of JP's output. Overall cohesive and pleasant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Hazy, murky medium orange-brown body, medium clumping buff head. Tart/sour fruitskin nose with cherry pit and hints of funky esters. Tart, sour but dry body of cherry and dusty esters, light malts, and a bitter, tannic finish with lingering cherry pit and grassy notes. Nice full tartness. Great beer.

Capped 750 from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Bottled 05-03-2012. Pours slightly hazy copper with a transient beige head. Aroma is sour. Sour berries; sour light pitted fruit. Med body or better. Frothy carb. Flavor is sour light pitted fruit - perhaps with some citrus. There’s some earthiness in it. A sour ale deserving of the descriptor. Finishes sour. Very, very, nice.

Draft at Beachwood, Wood Shop 7. Pinkish-brown-orange, with a nice head. Fruity, passion fruit, cracker malt nose. Very interesting dry fruit flavor. Not very sour, though funky. A bit weird, but interesting and tasty.

On tap at the Ann Arbor location, for my 800th rating. Pours a red amber with an off-white head. Aromas of red fruits, like raspberry, very tart. Flavor is very tart and sour, lots of red fruits, cherry, raspberry, kind of a red fruit flavor I don’t recognize, maybe cranberry. Dry. After a while, a slight coffee/dark chocolate finish builds up. Very, very nice.

Bottle at a recent bottle share... Poured darkish, reddish/amber with an eggy, light tan head. Aroma of tropical fruits. Barrel notes and funk, not so much sourness but definitely some flavors that probably came from critters. Citris and acidity with sweetness and light fruits.

750mL bottle purchased and enjoyed at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma has very restrained tartness present, but with plenty of funk. Some light cocoa hints are present with some lacto character. Really quaffable stuff. Moderately hazy orange-amber body with a strong off-white head present with good lacing. Starts tart, lightly lactic, and funky. Some light sweetness and fruitiness is present in the middle. Hints of olive later, before a little more funk comes in. This has a nice, light fruity tartness later on. Very drinkable and pretty fucking awesome.

On tap at the A2 brewpub. Pours a clear deep ruby amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice tart red fruit note with and underlying dark grain and a bit of bitterness. Flavor begins with tart red fruits with a bit of acid that mellows to a dark grain and roasted finish.

Thanks, GT! Pours amber in color with a khaki head. Light tartness on the nose, somewhat acetic with balsamic vinegar, leather, and oak. A touch of malt sweetness, mild fruitiness, and faint funkiness. Similarly basic/simple in terms of the flavor. Tart fruit and a bit of vinegar. Light malt sweetness, oak, and maybe some leather. Dry on the finish.
