Taste the summertime with Jopen Adriaan. Besides wheat and oats, this wheat beer also contains herbs. The result is a fresh and fruity beer with a smooth flavour. Jopen Adriaan is named after the De Adriaan windmill. This windmill stood on the banks of the Spaarne for centuries and milled grain for use by Haarlem brewers. In 1932, the mill was destroyed by fire. An initiative to rebuild the windmill was sponsored by Jopen through the sale of this wheat beer. Hugely thirst-quenching and ideally enjoyed on a sunny outdoor terrace.

The beer looks nice, like a witbier should. The color is a rather light yellow. The beer is pale, but some beers are paler. On top of the beer there is a nice layer of rough white foam that collapses quickly. Almost nothing of the foam remains. The smell is nice but simple and a little mild for the type. I smell some zest and citrus fruits. It is a little watery though, the aromas could have been stronger. The taste is the same. A bit to watery and to mild. I’ve expected somethings stein get. The bitter and sour zest aromas are to weak and the sweets are also to weak. I expected more, especially from Jopen.

0.33 l bottle from Alko Hakaniemi, Helsinki. Cloudy and pale (wit) with a nice head. Taste has coriander and orange. Less citrus than usually due to oats which make this more malty.

Hyvin hailakanvaalea sameahko olut, jonka vaahto katoaa nopeasti kokonaan. Tuoksussa jonkinlainen yllättävä hieman tunkkaisen sitruksinen ja korianterinen aromi. Jollain kierolla tavalla omaan nenääni leijailee jopa palvikinkkuista tuoksua. Maku sitruksinen, mutta samalla hieman tunkkainen. Melko kuiva, kevyt suutuntuma, runsaasti hiilihappoja. Ei silti lainkaan raikas witbier.

Marstonlad (878) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUL 23, 2016
Bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours cloudy straw yellow with a little white head. The aroma features fresh citrusy fruitiness - lemon and orange - with pale, grainy and wheaty maltiness and a touch of coriander - fruity rather than spicy overall. Taste is dryish and very easily drinkable; not much bitterness or sourness and plenty of fruitiness with a pale malt base underneath. Flavours of wheat and grain and orange and lemon. The palate is velvety smooth and medium in body - smoothness especially is spot on for a witbier. Fresh and fruity, standard witbier - nice to drink but easily forgotten also.

Hazy yellow body, white head. Aroma has decent amount of wheat, some soapy lemon. Bit zesty and spicywhen warms. Flavour has watery dish washing liquid. Some wheaty notes. Not the best wit there is.

mikkopen (1155) - Guelph, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 2, 2016
330 ml bottle. Hazy pale yellow colour, thin white head. Wheaty-malty aroma with notes of citrus, banana and spices. The flavour is wheaty-malty, with mild citrus notes, and a lightly spicy finish. Not bad.
