Packs a punch at 8% and I wonder if this is higher than typical for the style. Had a lining of funky fruits but the palate is hot and a bit abrasive. This settles down over time and the cooked fruits really come to the fore. Tasty and very old school Belgian in taste. PhillyCraft (7739) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 22, 2015
Sampled at The Festival, pours light brown with small sized head and lace. Sweet malts, wood, and spice were the main things being noticed. Lighter to medium body. I miss Cigar City gruit. Gurthnar (6173) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - OCT 20, 2015
Bottle from Ottakringer shop. Hazy deep amber colour. Aroma strong strong dried fruits, raisins, toffee, light milk chocolate. Taste is likewise malt-oriented, with alcohol coming through, lots of biscuity malt and dried fruits, and minty clovish spiciness in the finish. Very good. Surprisingly easily drinkable. fonefan (50762) - VestJylland, DENMARK - MAY 25, 2014

Draught @ 5th Borefts Beer Festival 2013, Brouwerij de Molen, Bodegraven, Netherlands.
[ As Jopen Gouds Gruit ].
Clear light dark brown color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, dark malt, spicy, herbs. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, dark malt, sweet herbs - honey. Body is medium, texture is oily - sticky, carbonation is soft.
Pours dark and black, slightly beige head. Aroma is sweet, has caramel, reminding me Estonian Christmas porter. I can say the same about the taste. Liquorice, sweet cocoa cookie-cake. Clearly many herbs, can’t even understand that hops are missing. Feels like a diluted version of Riga Balzams. Not bad but I will remember this as an "interesting experience".

On tap at Jopenkerk, at 10% ABV. Not sure if this should be a new entry or was just a mistake on the blackboard, although it definitely felt like 10%. Dark ruby brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of Jopen Koyt with extra booze, so gale, star anise, liquorice mainly. Flavour is sweet, boozy, spicy, gale and liquorice, hint of peppery spice, dark fruits, herbal bitter finish. Medium-bodied, boozy. OK. sic1314 (4775) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - FEB 11, 2014

Black. Thick tan head. Aroma and taste is mostly gruit. And I think I taste bubblegum. Smooth body, soft carbo. Looks and taste don’t match...
