Alengrin (5239) - BELGIUM - MAY 27, 2017
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2017 Jopen’s take on the modern IPA, from a bottle at Antwaerps Bierhuyske. Thick, dense, creamy, off-white, cobweb-lacing head over a misty peach blonde beer with ochre-ish tinge. Aroma is unfortunately incapacitated by an unmistakable bacterial infection, which - mixed with the Mosaic - results in impressions of sour oranges, wet earth or mud, dust, spoiled milk and egg yolk, through which the delicate mango- and passionfruit-like hops still pierce, but obviously this is not the way it was intended... Same for the taste: fruity and estery, more so than is acceptable for an IPA, hints of sour passionfruit, unripe gooseberries, fermenting apples and tangerine, spritzy carbo (too much so), very earthy yeastiness throughout, ’dirty’, over a bready malt sweetish middle - the sweetness evidently ruined by the sourness of the infection. Citrusy and mildly tropical aromatic hoppiness is still there in the end, but it too gets lost in this dirty, souring (even very lightly vinegary) infection effect. Too bad, Craftmember told me he drinks this regularly and deems it an excellent IPA, but in this condition, it is of course not representative for what it intends to be. I probably should not rate it because of the infection, but I have nothing else to base my opinion on so this rating is inherently biased - but I will certainly revisit this when I come across it in prime and uninfected condition.

Golden, quite clear. Nice Mosaic hop, pine, spruce, melon. Modern hops and fermentation. Very drinkable, surprisingly bitter. Quality brew if perhaps a touch simple in aftertaste. Good brew! (33cl bottle from AH Stevenshof)

Fles. Verdomd goede IPA. Sterke geur, sterke, volle smaak, bitter. Goede afdronk (beetje zoetig op einde - maïs?). full body, very bitter, light sweetness,

Medium aroma of malts, caramel, orange, tropical fruit and pine; enda slightly bitter and dry with hops and citrus.

Turbid/opaque amber/orange beer with a slight/medium off-white head.

Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, orange, tropical fruit and pine; ends slightly bitter and dry with hops and citrus.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Lovely sweet flavours full of orange and tropical fruit with even some pine. Great amount of hops at the end and a great appearance and palate as well, but the aroma could have been stronger however.

Bottle at home, orange beer, small head. Aroma is citrus, hops, malt, grassy. Taste is the same, bitter dry, decent ipa

Tap at Jopen. Unfiltered orange-tan body. Steady bright white head. Buttery, eathy...not that impressive of an offering. Really misses on some levels, odd malt tones. Rather weak hop tone for Mosaic. Drinkable, but not on par with their traditional stuff.

Flesje gekregen van TomHendriksen. Amberkleurig troebel bier, flink schuimend. Aroma van citrusvruchten. Smaak en nasmaak is zeer hoppig.

Drank with @Patrick, also with Rik 01-04-17. Good, typical IPA. Fine, especially for 6%.

Toll!

bonkiedeaap (748) - Leerdam, NETHERLANDS - MAR 24, 2017
Bottle from Albert Heijn in Leerdam. The beer is deep golden to amber colored and has a large and stable broken white head, with livingly Co2. The aroma is very hoppy and fruity, and has some nice notes of citrus, grapefruits, mango, passion fruits and some bitterness of grass, spices and pines. The taste is light sweet and very fruity, with clear notes from the aroma and changes into an explosive bitterness with spices, grass and pines. Very nice balanced. The finish is dry and bitter and is long noticable. Just a very good IPA, just as good as Mooie Nel from the same brewer.
